Powers: Quicksilver has the mutant power to move at super-human speeds. He has
an increased metabolism and his thoughts and motions as move at super-speeds. He recently
acquired a power boost from the High Evolutionary, unabling him to run fast enough to run
over water. His powers have made him arrogant and with a short temper.
Origin: Magda, the wife of the man who would become Magneto, was escaping into
the mystical mountain called Wundagore when her pregency reached full term. Rescued by the
man-cow Bova, Magda gave birth to Pietro and Wanda, but died in the process. Bova, wanting
the best for the children, gave them to Djanjo Maximoff, a gypsy. And such, Pietro and
Wanda were raised as gyspies.
History: Eventually, the twins powers catalyzed and the townspeople attacked
them. Their father could not save them, but instead, Magneto appeared and spared the
children's lives. He then offered them protection and a home, not knowing that these two
were really his children. Both in awe and in fright, they accepted Magneto's offer,
joining the first Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.
But Magneto was cruel and the twins were not evil. They escaped Magneto's space station
and fled to the Avengers. There, they became the second-generation of the team, after the
founders had left. Joined by Captain America and Hawkeye, they were beginnings of the
ever-changing Avengers.
Quicksilver and his sister, now called the Scarlet Witch, remained with the team off and
on for several years. They searched for their parents and learned that perhaps the World
War II heroes, the Whizzer and Miss America, were their parents. Later, they traveled to
Europe with their adopted father, and met Bova for the first time. Bova soon became one of
the twin's oldest friends.
During his adventures, Quicksilver met and fell in love with Crystal, the Inhuman ally of
the Fantastic Four. The two were married and moved to the Blue Area of the moon, where the
Inhumans lived. There, they had a daughter named Luna and were happy.
When the Scarlet Witch and her husband, the android Vision, visited the first time,
Quicksilver was angry with his sister, for marrying someone not even remotely human. For a
time, this rift seperated the close twins. Wanda would return later, however, and on that
trip, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch learned their true parentage: when Magneto took
the child Luna into his arms and called her his granddaughter, the twins finally had the
answers they were looking for.
Quicksilver's temper and his arrogance soon also seperated him from his wife and daughter.
They were seperated and Quicksilver returned to Earth. Suffering from depression and
insanity, Quicksilver sought to ruin the Avengers by turning the evil Zodiac against them.
The Avengers stopped him, and Quicksilver made a recovery but did not reconcile with his
wife, who went on to join the Avengers herself.
Approached by Dr. Valerie Cooper, Quicksilver joined the government-sponsered mutant team
X-Factor. During this time, he and Crystal tried to heal their marriage and they were
making strides. The major problem, however, was Crystal's interest in her teammate, the
Black Knight. The two worked out their differences in the end, and Quicksilver returned to
both the Avengers and his wife and daughter.
Rough times were ahead for Quicksilver, when the combined super-powers of Earth fought the
insane Professor X, then known as Onslaught. In the final battle, the super-heroes gave
their lives to stop the madman, while mutants could not. Both Crystal and the Scarlet
Witch, using her hex powers, sacrificed their lives to save the world. Quicksilver was
left to raise little Luna by himself.
He spent the next months with the X-Men, and then traveling world alongside Hercules. He
then traveled to Mount Wundagore, and became the leader of the Knights of Wundagore,
fighting his father's Acolytes, led by the insane Exodus. But then, the heroes made their
triumphant return to life, and his sister and wife's lives were restored. Quicksilver
found peace once again.
Magneto, however, had other plans. Thought dead, Magneto returned and forced the United
Nations to hand over the small country called Genosha, a country that had been plagued by
a war between humans and mutants. Asked by Amelia Voght, Magneto's closest Acolyte,
Quicksilver joined the Genoshan counsel, to watch over his father's actions.
Quisksilver remained there, until Magneto's powers, which had been severely damaged months
before, were returned to full power. Alongside the former X-Man Polaris, Quicksilver
staged a revolt against his father. With the Avengers at his side, Quicksilver won.
Magneto remained in power, but Quicksilver remained in Genosha for a while, watching his
father from a far.
After a time, Quicksilver returned to aide his sister and the Avengers. He rejoined the
team once again, and he is currently still an active member. |
