Once an Avenger...
Secret Wars
Powers: Photon has the ability to transform her body into any type of energy.
She can transform herself into x-rays, gamma rays, and her most useful form, neutrinos. In
energy form, she does not have to breath (meaning she can survive in outer space), she can
fly at the speed of light, and is intangible.
Origin: A New Orleans policewoman, Monica Rambeau lived at home with her
parents and lived a nice, normal life. That is, until the day she met Spider-Man. On that
day, she helped the webslinger at a chemical plant, and when an explosion that should have
claimed her life, gave her superpowers instead, her life was changed forever. She saved
some lives after that, the media dubbed her Captain Marvel and thus, Monica's life as a
super-hero began.
History: Soon, the "Captain" caught the attention of the Avengers and
she aided them on a mission. But because of their limit on team members, they could not
ask her to join. Instead, Monica joined the Avengers as a trainee. She was soon fighting
alongside her heroes, like Captain America and She-Hulk.
It did not disclose her true identity to them, and she flew home to her parents on most
nights. She fought long and hard, and she came to trust the Avengers. She would eventually
start to live more at the mansion, share her identity with them, and become a full-time
member.
With the help of the Black Knight, Monica learned of neutrinos, a form of energy that
would catapult her powers even further. With this new control over her powers, Monica
would also come to chair and lead the Avengers, after Captain America nominating her for
the position. Monica was proud, and her Avengers were a good team.
But nothing could the coming disaster in her life. The Avengers were forced to fight one
of their own, when the Avengers association Marrina transformed into the Leviathan. In
stopping the Levitation, Captain Marvel used so much energy that she lost a third of her
body mass and all of her powers. She returned home to New Orleans and to her parents.
Monica slowly recovered, but it appeared that her powers had been lost forever. But on a
chance encounter with a criminal, Monica's powers returned with a slight spark of energy.
Slowly but surely, Monica returned to fullpower, once more able to fly across the world in
a heartbeat.
But by that time, another person was using her name. The son of the original Captain
Marvel, Genis, had started to use his father's name. The Controller used his evil powers
to force Monica into attacking the new Captain. But the Avengers helped her break free,
and Monica allowed Genis to take his father's name. Monica then took the name Photon.
But Monica did not return to active duty. Her father had just retired from firefighting,
and he and Monica started a charter business together. For a time, Monica has happy in
this normal world. But this world was shaken when Onslaught 'killed' the Avengers.
Months later, the Avengers returned, and all the Avengers, past and present, were attacked
the evil Morgan LeFay, including Monica. After the Avengers defeated Morgan, the founders
offered Monica a place on the team, but she declined, still wanting to help out her
parents.
But as the months wore on, Monica was involved in both the Wrecking Crew attack and the
attack of the Infinites. She eventually returned to active duty, taking her place as
traveler between the Avengers space station and Earth. She was most recently involved with
the Kang War. |
