Once an Avenger...
"I can challenge you, Morgan!
I - the Scarlet Witch! I can - and I will!"
Chapter 1, Avengers (Vol III) 1 -
Once an Avenger...
Around the world, the Avengers of old are attacked by numerous foes, mystical beings
striving to kill the heroes. However, just as suddenly as the attack starts, it stops,
leaving the beaten Avengers confused. Sending out the call, for all Avegners, the founders
unite to decide what course of action should be taken. However, the missing Thor suddenly
appears to report that the Twlight Sword, the sword that will cleave reality at the end of
the world, is gone. The team, with all its members, gather and, after hearing the
testimony of Thor of Asgard's fall, the Avengers rouse themselves into action. They know
their objective find the Twilight Sword and the mystical Norn stones. Five teams head out.
But the team led by Captain America finds the trap. The Scarlet Witch is captured, and the
team is confronted by evil Morgan LeFay and her nephew, Mordred. Using the Scarlet Witch's
magic, Morgan cleaves reality, changing into her vision.
Chapter 2, Avengers (Vol III) 2 -
The Call
Morgan has reshaped reality, with the Avengers serving as her Queen's Vengance, Mordred as
her aide, Vision as her servent, and the Scarlet Witch as her prisoner. However, the
Scarlet Witch sends out a mystic call, hoping someone will hear her cry for help. Captain
America is the first to break Morgan's control, and he quickly convinces Hawkeye of the
same. Time passes, and Hawkeye easily convinces Photon and Wasp that things are not what
they seem. However, when the team tries to free Iron Man, he turns on them. The group is
confronted by the controlled Avengers, and with Cap's words, Quasar and the New Warrior,
Justice, fell out from Morgan's control. However, Namor attacks the group, and the other
Avengers follow suit. The fight continues until Thor returns, realizing Morgan is a fraud.
The team escapes their former teammates. Meanwhile, the Scarlet Witch's cry is answered,
by the dead Wonder Man!
Chapter 3, Avengers (Vol III) 3 -
Fata Morgana
The small team practices for the fight ahead of them, while Morgan learns that the Scarlet
Witch has escaped. Morgan attacks the small team, but they are not the one who freed the
Witch. Instead, it was Wonder Man, who the Witch mysteriously resurrected. The team sneaks
into the castle, but is quickly overwhelmed by their former teammates. Morgan is losing,
and in her vengance, she strikes down Mordred. Then, she turns her attention to the
Avengers, only to find the Scarlet Witch in her way. The two fight to stand off, until
Wonder Man reappears to battle the oversized Morgan. Morgan's grip on the Avengers is
loosened, and they start to break free. Using all their power, the Witch pours the energy
into Wonder Man. However, their link is severed when the Vision is critically injured. The
Witch turns the tide of power, perhaps killing Wonder Man once and for all. The reality
cleaves again, and the Avegners find themselves alive and in the present day. The Vision
is still wounded, and Wonder Man is gone. Plus, the Beast realizes a major problem, just
what are they going to do with 39 Avengers?
