Once an Avenger...
Secret Wars

Powers: Hawkeye is a baseline human. He was trained in several forms of fighting and defense. His foremost ability is his skill as an archer, which he has an arsenal of different arrows, including gas arrows, electric arrows, net arrows, and more. He is also an accomplished martial artist. Hawkeye once used the growing powers of the Pym particles when he took the name Goliath.

Origin: A orphan and member of a traveling carnival, the young Clint Barton met Philip Javert, the man who would become the Swordsman. Trained by this master of combat, Clint quickly learned of his extraordinary skill as an archer. After developing his myriad of trick arrows, Clint took the name Hawkeye and set off for adventure.

History: Envious of Iron Man, Hawkeye was lured in to attack the Avenger by the seductive Black Widow, who at that point was still working for KGB (the Russian spies). Hawkeye learned of the Black Widow's true motive, but had found by that time that he was truly in love with her. Combining their forces, Hawkeye helped the Black Widow defect and he himself turned his back on crime forever.
He soon gained the attentions of the Avengers, whose founders were just about ready to leave. Seizing the oppurtunity to clear his name, Hawkeye joined the second roster of Avengers ever, alongside Captain America, Scarlet Witch, and Quicksilver. The quartet would remain with the team for years to come and Hawkeye himself would be one of the Avengers's most recognizable figures.
When the Avengers took to outer space, trying to stop the Kree/Skrull war, Hawkeye learned that his lack of true super-powers put him at a disadvantage. Taking some of the Pym Particles, invented by Hawkeye's fellow Avenger Giant-Man, Hawkeye put away his arrows for a time, becoming the size-changing Goliath. He would use the tag until he returned to Earth.
After the war, Hawkeye remained in space for time, but slowly found his way back to Earth, but not to the Avengers. He hooked up with a circus and found himself a new drinking partner: the Olympian demi-god, Hercules. The two returned to the Avengers and Hawkeye once again became an active Avenger.
But this tenure would not last long. During a battle, Hawkeye broke his arm, forcing him on the sidelines. Unable to stay still for very long, Hawkeye left the Avengers and took a job as head of security for the Brand Corporation. While the job was mostly stable, Hawkeye did manage to defeat the villainess Deathbird with his broken arm.
After his arm healed, Hawkeye once again returned to the Avengers. But sure enough, something else would come up. This time, it was love. Within a months time, Hawkeye met the stunning Mockingbird, the former SHIELD spy, fell in love with her, and married her. The two were the perfect match and everyone agreed.
When the Vision, as the current Avengers chairmen, decided the Avengers needed a west-coast branch, it was Hawkeye that was selected to found and form this new team. With Mockingbird at his side, he took Iron Man, Wonder Man, Tigra, and the now completely human Dr. Pym with him to California. And thus, Hawkeye formed the West Coast Avengers, refered to lovingly as the Whackos.
The early days of the team were some of Hawkeye's happiest. But trajedy would soon strike that would destroy both Hawkeye's relationship with his wife and with the team. After being thrown through time, Mockingbird was captured and drugged by the evil Phantom Rider. Mockingbird broke free of his influence, but by that time, it was too late. The Phantom Rider had decieved her, and essentially raped both her body and mind. In a duel, the Phantom Rider lost to Mockingbird and when the Rider fell backwards over a cliff, Mockingbird did not save him; she let him die.
For a time, Hawkeye did not know of his wife's revenge on the Phantom Rider. But when he found out, he kicked her off the team, but both Tigra and Moon Knight sided with her, spilting the team in half. The couple seperated and no one knew what would become of the marriage. The two tried to work together, but found it difficult to be together for any amount of time.
Eventually, Hawkeye would slowly lose his grip on the team and Iron Man would replace him as chairmen. Enraged, Hawkeye left. Mockingbird returned and the two tried to sort out their differences. They joined forces with the Great Lakes Avengers and eventually returned to active duty with the West Coast Avengers. Finally, it seemed like Hawkeye and Mockingbird got the happy ending they deserved.
Then the worst event in Hawkeye's life claimed the soul of his beloved. During a fight with Mephisto, the dread demon tried to steal the soul of Hawkeye. Instead, Mockingbird sacrificed herself, allowing Mephisto to forever capture her soul. To this day, Mockingbird's soul resides in Mephisto's hellish realm, never resting.
Hawkeye could not face the facts of his wife's death. For a long period, Hawkeye left the Avengers, angry that they had failed to save Mockingbird. During that time, the West Coast Avengers vanished, replaced by Force Works. Hawkeye was never a part of that team, but he later returned to the Avengers, rejoining the east coast branch.
He remained there for a long period, up until Onslaught's attack. An Avenger to the core, Hawkeye, alongside the other Avengers, sacrificed his life to save the planet. But Hawkeye and the Avengers's story does not end there. In truth, it only begins.
Franklin Richards, son of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman, actually saved his parents and their friends by creating an alternate Earth on an orbit directly opposite of the true Earth. Eventually, Franklin discovered the truth and the heroes returned, and Hawkeye returned home to Earth.
The Avengers were reformed, and Hawkeye rejoined the team once more. He, however, soon became aware of the plight of the Thunderbolts, the former Masters of Evil that had been disguised as heroes by the evil Baron Zemo. Hawkeye felt an empathy for them, knowing that he too had once been a thief and villain. He left the Avengers abrubtly and disappeared for several months.
When he reappeared, Hawkeye was the new leader of the Thunderbolts, trying to help them make it as true heroes. He fought with them against the Crimson Cloak's new Masters of Evil and remained with them, forcing Mach-1, the former Beetle, to go to jail for committing murder. He trained the others, and they became a force to match the Avengers. They also have helped the Avengers several times, Hawkeye creating a link between them.
But Hawkeye would soon be forced to pay for his actions. The team's youngest member, Jolt, was killed, but it appeared to be a random shooting, not directed at the T-Bolts. As the events unraveled, Jolt was revealed to be alive, former hero Nomad, now Scourge, was being forced to commit murder, and Henry Peter Gyrich, one of the government's highest ranking officials, was partially behind it.
In the end, the T-Bolts finally gained pardons for their past crimes, freeing them from the burden of guilt. But Hawkeye paid the price: the T-Bolts got their pardon, but Hawkeye went to jail, most because Gyrich has always hated him.
Hawkeye recently escaped from jail, with the help of the telepathic Mentallo, and his aims are to return to the Thunderbolts side. When and if he does remains to be seen.
