Dieting the "Protein Power way!

Our greatest glory in life consists, not in never trying, but in rising every time we fall. Welllllllll I sure fell ---off my diet for four years and gained much back, eating after 6 PM and way to many carbs, but have regained my balance. Started the "Protien Power Diet" again, have lost 47 pounds since August 2003. Believe me I have fallen many times when it came to dieting. I am well aware of my own destructive eating habits. I'm pulling myself together again, hopefully for the last time. I'm getting to old for this yo-yo weight change.

My history of dieting

Before dieting 1985.............After dieting 1986
These are pictures of me from 1985-1986 when I lost 93 pounds going to weight watchers, it took me one year...needless to say the weight was put back on over the years. I didn't enjoy the way I looked, I was embarrassed when buying clothes and had become very sensitive about my weight. My cholesterol had sky rocketed, it is now time to try another diet. Long over due I might add. No one knows what a struggle dieting is better than me. I have been down that road many times before it has been a constant struggle most of my life. I was getting sick and tired of trying to lose weight and getting nowhere. I was desperate I had to do something.

Now

I'm not getting older I'm getting better.

I recently had my picture take, this is the first since 1983. It's been 16 years because I never wanted to have my picture taken due to my weight problem. When this picture was taken I had lost 67 pounds. My daughter Patti enhanced my photo with one of her pc programs.
Visit Patti's web site and see the fun she has had with her new digital camera.
My daughter had this picture from my mother's 80th Birthday Party on September 1998. I had been on the diet for a few weeks and had already lost about 15 pounds. I was not aware that anyone had taken my picture because I never would allow my picture to be taken.

In September 1998 my brother and sister-in-law visited from Arizona. They looked great, both had lost a lot of weight and were feeling physically better (he is now totally off blood pressure and cholesterol medicine).
How I asked???
They introduced me to the "Protein Power" diet which I started September 25, 1998 until August 1999 I had lost 89 pounds and had increased my energy level. (I doubt that I could even lift that much weight, so how did I carry it around?) This weight loss program does not follow conventional methods of losing weight.

No miracle pills, no calorie counting, no powders to mix and absolutely no strenuous exercise.

This weight loss program comverts the food you eat into energy not fat. Your body will burn fat without hunger pains. Do yourself a favor and purchase the book. "Protein Power" by Drs.Michael and Mary Eades. Read and believe the truth of todays low fat diets. There are more overweight people today than ever. Why, with so many on low fat diets?
Because low fat diets are not working, that's why! Make a healthy choice and start this diet. Decrease your carbohydrate and starch consumption, eat more protein for a healthier you. Even if you don't want to stay on this diet for a long period of time it will give you a running start.

Check back on my progress during the coming months. This isn't just a diet, it is a life change.

Many people have asked me what do I eat? You asked the types of food I am eating? When I first started this diet I ate meats, eggs, cheese, some veggies and diet jello. No pasta, potatoes, bread or junk food. About three months after I started this diet I began to add more carbs to my diet. An apple a day more veggies and even pasta and fries. I don't eat sweets or junk food like chips, popcorn, cakes or cookies. I don't seem to want or crave them. After about the first week to 10 days it gets easier but the first week is the hardest. I hope this helps you, let me know if you try this diet and if it works for you.

I just can't believe it! Have lost a total of 89 since September 25. Do you need to lose a few pounds? Give it a try. Have been to the doctors for check-up and finally recieved the results of blood work. My cholesterol report, was 263 six months ago, which had dropped due to medication from 343. Now GET THIS it is now 192. Was hoping but can't believe it.
No medication just the "Protien Power" diet. I don't feel hungry during the day and crave sweets like I once did. I still have junk food around for the grandkids and husband but it no longer bothers me. Well! That's a tiny lie. Smells get to me--like the aroma of chocolate or homemade bread--but I resist. Yep! Have developed great will power over the last months. Also drink a lot of water. I know people who have been on low fat diets but their blood pressure and cholesterol remain high. Believe me this diet does work to lower these numbers.
Have had to buy new clothes but it is easier shopping for a smaller size.

This diet has been good for my body but even better for my morale. I have developed more discipline and confidence, I feel so much better about myself. I am finally in control of my food choices because I no longer have cravings and hunger. There is no quick fix, it will take me many more months to achieve my goal. It is obvious I needed to correct the way I ate, to make changes that I must follow the rest of my life.

What we miss the most when dieting are the SWEETS. Hopefully some of the recipes below will satisfy those cravings.

SUGAR-FREE CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE

  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 envelope unflavored gelatin
  • 2 8-oz. pkgs. cream cheese, softened
  • 10 pkgs. artificial sweetener
  • 1/2 t. almond extract
  • 3-4 T. cocoa
Pour boiling water in your blender. Sprinkle with gelatin; stir until gelatin is dissolved. Add remaining ingredients to blender and blend for around 5 seconds. Pour into cupcake papers that are inside a muffin tin. Refrigerate until set, around 3 hours. Then cover with plastic wrap, or put in plastic bag. Makes 12-14. Each has around 125 calories and 3 grams of carbs.

When I make this, I usually leave out the cocoa until I've poured six servings; then I add around 1 1/2 T. cocoa to the last half and pour that mixture into the remaining cups. Yummy! Sometimes I eat this at lunch and at dinner both--and I still am losing 1-3 pounds per week. Amazing!

Here's another recipe that we enjoy, adapted from an old recipe of mine that included Ramen noodles.
CHICKEN SALAD
  • 1 1/2 lbs. boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 lb. shredded cabbage
  • 6 chopped green onions
Spray chicken breasts with Pam or other cooking spray and bake; or fry in butter. Season with Salt 'n Spice or another good seasoning. When cool, cut into cubes. Shred cabbage into a large plastic bowl with lid; add chicken and onion.

Dressing:
  • 1/2 c. oil
  • 1/4 c. cider vinegar
  • 2 pkgs. artificial sweetener
  • 1 flavor packet from a package of Ramen noodles, oriental flavor
  • 1 1/2 t. salt
  • 1/2 - 1 t. pepper

Stir well until salt and sweetener are dissolved. Pour over cabbage/chicken mixture. Allow flavors to blend for a few hours before serving.

I also make a quick and easy dessert that I enjoy in the evenings for a treat.
    • Mix one small pack of dry sugar free jello
    • to one pound of cottage cheese.
    • Chill
My favorite is raspberry. A few fresh berries may be added also.

    Raspberry Delight
    • 2 cups boiling water
    • 2 small boxes raspberry diet jello
    • 16 packs Equal
    • 8 ounce package cream cheese
    • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
    • 10 packs Equal
In a large bowl: Disolve 2 boxes jello in 2 cups of boiling water. Set in refrigerator while you mix the cream cheese. Add 16 packs Equal to cream cheese, mixing well with fork. Add cream cheese mixture to jello, stirring well, place back into refrigerator. Now add 10 packs of Equal to whipping cream and whip until it stands in peaks. Mix whipped cream into jello mixture and refrigerate for 2 hours.

    Slaw
    • 12 packs Equal
    • 1/8 cup cider vinegar
    • 1 heaping cup mayonaise
Disolve Equal in vinegar. Add mayo and stir well. Put over 2 pounds of grated cabbage(use the 1 pound slaw mix at grocery stores and half the recipe).
    For your sweet tooth!

    Peanut Butter Cups
    • 4 ounces peanut butter
    • 1-2 ounces of cream cheese
    • 2 table spoons heavy cream
    • 4 packets of sweetener

Mix all ingredients until creamy. Make a double batch of chocolate (recipe below). Pour in to a small pan lined with cling wrap and put in fridge to cool and set. Once set, spread the peanut butter on top and make another double batch of chocolate to top it with. If you can find the little mini cupcake liners, you could roll the peanut butter into little balls and put one in each cup and pour the chocolate over it. Makes it like a buckeye or more in the shape of a Peanut butter cup.

    Chocolate
    • 1 oz unsweetened chocolate
    • 2 tbs butter
    • 1 tbs cream
    • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
    • 8 packets of Equal
    • small handful chopped/crushed nuts

Melt chocolate and butter carefully. Remove from heat, stir in cream and vanilla, add sweetener, fold in chopped nuts and chill. Serve at room temperature.

    Simple Caulilflower Potato Salad
    • 1 16oz bag frozen cauliflower
    • 2 tbs dried minced onions
    • 5 Hardboiled eggs
    • 3/4 to 1 cup mayonaisse
    • 2 tbsp mustard
    • Salt and pepper to taste

Nuke the cauliflower and onions for 10 minutes. Drain and let cool. Cut and add eggs. Mix mayo, mustard, salt and pepper and mix with cauliflower. Refrigerate. If you subtract the fiber grams, you end up with 8 carbs for the entire recipe. Tastes great.
    Baked Cottage Cheese Custard
    • 3 eggs
    • 3/4 cup heavy cream
    • 3/4 cup water
    • 1 cup cottage cheese
    • sweetener to equal 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1 tsp. vanilla
    • cinnamon to taste

Combine all ingredients EXCEPT cinnamon in the blender. Blend until almost smooth. Pour into 6 6 oz. custard cups ( I didn't have any so I used oven safe coffee cups). Sprinkle with cinnamon. Place in a large baking pan, and pour hot water in pan to reach 1 inch of custard cups. Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes. Refrigerate.
    Sugar Free Fudge

    Yield: 16 pieces
    • 16 oz Cream cheese, softened
    • 2 ea Unsweetened chocolate squares (1oz ea) melted and cooled
    • 1/2 c Sugar substitute(aspartame sweetner)
    • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
    • 1/2 c Chopped pecans

In a small mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, chocolate, sweetener and vanilla until smooth. Stir in pecans. Pour into 8-inch square baking pan lined with foil. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Cut into 16 squares. Serve chilled. Diabetic Exchanges: one serving = 3 fat; also 147 calories, 84 mg sodium, 31 mg cholesterol, 5gm carbohydrate, 3gm protein, 14gm fat.
    Baked Cauliflower

    • 1 head cauliflower
    • 2 tbsps butter
    • 2 tbsps cream
    • 1/2 cup grated cheese
    • salt and pepper to taste
    • Parmesan for sprinkling

Boil cauliflower until quite soft and mash with potato masher or food processor. Add butter and cream and cheese and season to taste. Put into well-buttered casserole dish and sprinkle Parmesan on top. Bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees. The original had breadcrumbs mixed with the Parmesan, but who needs them! The original also called for Swiss cheese, which I don't like, so I used extra sharp cheddar, but almost any hard cheese would do, I imagine. Smoked cheese might be particularly good -- I had the above with some veggie Canadian bacon for breakfast, and it was wonderful. The consistency is sort of like grits, and the flavor is almost porridge-like.
    Sugar-Free Ketchup

    • 1 cn 12oz tomato paste
    • 1/2 ts Dry mustard (or 2 t. prepared yellow mustard)
    • 3 t SugarTwin Brown Sugar spoonable
    • 1 package Splenda***
    • 1/2 t Cinnamon
    • 1/2 c Water
    • 1 pn Cloves
    • 1/4 c (to taste) Cider or balsamic vinegar
    • 1 pn Allspice
    • salt to taste
    • onion powder to taste
