Chicken Scratch

Chicken Scratch

Chicken scratch is worked on gingham check it resembles crossstitch. When working your design use an embroidery hoop with the fabric pulled tight. Embroidery floss is used making a cross + over an x.

This was one of the first chicken scratch pillows I made and gave to my mother.

This is the hand sewing I now do while watching TV in the evening. This close up will allow you to see how the stitch is made. Give it a try, very easy and a great take along project when traveling. I enjoy the relaxing effect it has.

This is a table topper for my bedside table. With an extra square I made a pillow for my bed plus a few more for good measure.

I have finished my chicken scratch full size quilt top but can't decide on how to quilt it, I wonder if I will ever finish it. Most of these squares on this quilt top were small cross stitch designs. I just adapted them to the chicken scratch technique.
