| Gaimon's Island |
| On their journeys, the Straw Hat Pirates encounter a little island. Nami says that that island has treasure hidden somewhere on it, but is is famously known among pirates as a cursed island. Whoever lands on that island will be cursed. The adventure-loving Straw Hats, however, decide to head to the island to look for the treasure. When they enter the island, they see plenty of extremely weird animals and plants. (example: rooster-wolf) They are then suddenly ambushed by strange booby traps and a strange voice ordering them to leave the island. When Luffy refuses, he is shot with a volley of bullets, but of course they have no effect on him. The shooter tries to run away, but falls over. He is Gaimon, a man stuck in a box who had once been a pirate. He has been abandoned on the island for 20 years. He got stuck in the box when he fell from a cliff during a hunt for treasure. He claims that there are treasure boxes on top of the cliff, which is why he has been protecting the island from invaders for so long. Luffy goes to retieve the treasure for him. He launches up the cliff with his Gomu-Gomu technique, and indeed, spots the treasure boxes. Everyone is delighted for Gaimon, as he has not waited for 20 years in vain. Nami calls for Luffy to throw down the treasure, but Luffy flatly refuses. Nami and Usopp get angry with him but then Gaimon starts crying. It turns out that the treasure boxes were empty all along, just as Gaimon had feared. Luffy asks him to join their crew, but Gaimon refuses, saying that he wants to stay and protect the island. The animals have become his companions over time and he wants to protect them from being plundered by mankind. The Straw hats accept his decision and continue on their way. |
