| Arlong Pirates Arc |
| Nami returns to her hometown, Kokoyashi Island, where the merman pirate crew, Arlong � has taken over. It is revealed that Nami is a part of the Arlong pirates� crew. The team of Usopp, Zoro, Johnny and Yosakk come to Kokoyashi village and spot the Going Merry. They tie Zoro up in case he does anything reckless. They see some mermen approaching and escape from the boat, leaving Zoro. The mermen take Zoro back to Arlong Park. Usopp and Johnny go to the village and finds it upside-down. A merman appears and Johnny hides. Usopp is chased by the merman and he bumps into a little boy. He then meets Nojiko, who is Nami's sister. Back at Arlong Park, Zoro meets Nami. He purposely jumps into ocean and Nami saves him. Nami is angry and punches him. Arlong hears about Usopp and goes to Kokoyashi Village. He tries to kill Gen, the mayor of the village, but Usopp stops him. In rage, Arlong attempts to destroy the village. but his subordinates quickly take him back to Arlong Park. Usopp is also captured and taken there. Whilst Arlong was in the village, Nami freed Zoro and headed to the village herself. Zoro also goes to the village to look for Usopp. Nami's true motives for working under Arlong are also revealed. She wants to collect a hundred million beris in order to buy back the village. Luffy and his crew meet Mohmoo, a monster cow and Arlong's pet. They beat it up and goes to Kokoyashi Islandi. To save Usopp, Nami pretends to kill him. Johnny sees this and goes to tell Luffy. Luffy refuses to believe Johnny. Nami appears and tells them to leave, but Luffy refuses to leave without her. Instead, he goes to sleep on the spot. Usopp goes to warn them that Nami saved his life. Nojiko appears and she tells them of Nami�s past. (For an in-depth look into Nami�s past, please go to Nami�s character shrine) Luffy refuses to listen and leaves. The marines appears at her house and takes away all her collections so far They were sent by Arlong to prevent Nami from buying the village. Nami is outraged and goes to see Arlong. He threatens that if she leaves, he will kill everyone in the village. Nami returns to the village and warns te villagers not to go fight Arlong, however, they ignore her pleas and go anyhow. Nami is distraught and stabs at the Arlong tattoo on her shoulder in fury. Luffy appears and Nami asks him, "Help me.". He gives her his hat and yells out, �OF COURSE!!!�. He meets Zoro, Sanji and Usopp who have heard everything. They get up and get ready to defeat Arlong for Nami, in a scene which I feel is one of the best scenes in One Piece. Yosakk and Johnny have been guarding the door to Arlong Park and refuse to let the villagers in. The Straw-Hats head to Arlong Park and Luffy smashes the door apart. When questioned about their reason to defeat Arlong, they reply that Arlong �made their navigator cry�, which was a reason good enough for them to defeat Arlong. Luffy is thrown into the ocean after Arlong discovers he has eaten the Devil Fruit and Gen and Nojiko attempts to save him. Sanji, Zoro and Usopp each battle and defeat the crew of Arlong�s merman pirates and Sanji proceeds to go rescue Luffy. When Luffy is saved, he goes to beat up Arlong. Arlong then shows to him the room in which Nami was kept for the past years, and Luffy is outraged at the living conditions. When he sees the blood-stained pens that Nami uses to draw maps for Arlong, he becomes very angry and purposely destroys the room for Nami to see. He then defeats Arlong and yells loudly that Nami is their �Nakama�! The village is saved from Arlong's reign with his defeat. Nami tells the evil marine to return all her money. She gets a new tattoo and joins the Straw Hat pirates� crew with her original dream of travelling around the world to draw maps. They leave the island and Sanji builds an orange garden for Nami on the ship. |
