Nollaig (2003-04)

Well here we are as promised uploading more interesting photos of our Visual Arts at Christmas in Scoil na Croise Naofa. As we gently build up our understanding of the real meaning of Christmas we get to the heart of the truth. Alive-O 6 helps us along our path of discovery and we are going to share our knowledge of Jesus with our parents on 19 December at 11;30 .............showing a different aspect of the Nativity but nevertheless making it real and meaningful for all of us today , living our busy lives in 2003. What could we find to enrich our lives this Christmas? More about that on the Play page. Now let's take you on a visual tour of our Classroom.

This year we used empty biscuit containers to hold our paint and paste. We put end of series wall paper on our wall and off we went...to Bethlehem. The 3D buildings are biscuit packets and various empty boxes we gathered at home. The beautiful angels are made from old baubles - some smashed at the back, toilet rolls and many other bits and pieces we found around the kitchen. The amazing thing was the more we searched for raw materials the more ideas we got and this helped us for our Christmas Tree Decoration Competition , run by the Dungarvan County Council Environmental Branch. We had many beautiful decorations to choose from but after a vote a wooden star was chosen. It is real cut offs from a carpenter's work , which would have no use usually but this Dad brought home the pieces of wood and his son created a beautiful star so unique and wonderful that it is now hanging on that special Christmas tree in the Library on the Quay in Dungarvan. Go along and have a look. You will be pleasantly surprised by the ideas you could pick up for next year! Here is a little taste of our Visual Arts Programme for Christmas Time 2003. Notice the aeroboard and cardboard that our new fridge came in. Paint just loves to shine out from it's snowy surface and what lovely shapes too. Indeed a box of books came to our school and was just emtied when one of the boys grabbed it as if it were gold and turned it into a unique crib.......very arty and quite beautifully flick painted - not to be recommended at home!! The final four picture frieze on the floor again came from the packaging around another delivery.......who would have believed it and all "saor in aisce" We also rescued a Christmas tree from the bosca bruscair....This particular one was bought in 1972 and that makes it .yes .....nearly thirty two years old! No one would ever know because we've used it to display all our home-made decorations and more. Well done to the boys and all the families who provide the necessary back-up and enthusiasm, even when it is weelkend homework! .Waste Management never ends........and look at what we produced at the end of the day .

Bhí Rang a dó agus Rang a trí gnóthach leis....Féach ar na maisiúcháin a rinne na páistí . Nach bhfuil siad go hálainn?

This December the boys and their families chose to support the Augustinian Foreign Missions by selling lines and also The Chernoble Orphanages' Childrens Fund by buying a night -light with their pocket money. It is important to remember others at Christmas time and appreciate our own families too. The Ecumenical CAROL Service will be held in Holy Cross Church at 7;30 on 21 December and Scoil na Croise Naofa will sing Away in a Manger , accompanied by one of the boys from fourth class . It is always a lovely way to get into the Christmas Spirit. Thank you for inviting us to take part.
