When he's not dressed in gaudy hot pink Shingo Mama garb, Shingo Katori is actually a surprisingly good-looking man.
Shingo was born on January 31, 1977, making him 25 at the time of this posting. (2001) His blood type is A. He's 187 cm tall, and I'm not gonna post his weight because we ladies know how much that tends to fluctuate, and besides we wouldn't want our weight distributed all over the internet now would we? His hobbies include drawing, snowboarding, video games and electronics. I have one of his *cute* pictures posted up on in the gallery, BTW. As a kid, he was surprisingly well behaved, reportedly, but had a habit of doing weird things that got him into all sorts of accidents. In school, he hated math but loved art and gym, and Shingo's always described his academic talents as so-so, because while he never liked to study, he liked to create and entertain. He joined Johnny's Entertainment at the time of Hikaru Genji in the late 80's by pure chance, actually; he and his mother were going shopping and there were tryouts in the mall. Guess who got chosen?
Out of interest, Shingo Katori was chosen by Johnny's entertainment when he was 11 years old, and at the time of joining SMAP, was the youngest as well as the smallest member in his group. Now, while still being the youngest, he's also the tallest. But that doesn't stop him from still be considered the most childish. He has a dog named Apple, and his life hero is Goku, the main character from the cartoon Dragonball. One of the reasons Shingo is so popular is that a complete goof-off. Except when he's tired (and you can tell when he is) he will do the craziest and stupidest things in order to lighten the tone of a dull conversations. On Bistro SMAP, for example, at one time when the guest was testing the foods he and his group had made, he got bored with her and squeezed off to the other tables where he jokingly made fun of the way she droned on. You can find out a little more about Bistro SMAP at this page. His reactions to comments and things said are never subtle; you can always tell exactly what he's thinking by his face, or else he'll be quick to tell you.
In other words, he's a goof ball. That's one of the many reasons why this show works so well for him, and why it wouldn't really work with the other SMAP boys or even most of the other Johnny's Talents, though I could probably name a few who might be interesting to see doing this. For the Johnny's fans, to the left is a picture of Miyake Mama for you. Ha ha. Anyway, you don't have to know Shingo Katori's outside personality in order to see why his character fits so well to make this show work, because during Shingo Mama, you'll notice very little acting, and when he does, it's obvious. (In other words, meant to be funny.) So everything he does comes naturally from himself. And besides, as he complains about often, who would want to have to wake up at 5 am in the morning and play a woman? Takes far too much talent.
This is not a specifically Shingo Katori page, so if you want more information on his dramas, other television programs, concert information or his weight, please see the links section for better pages.
