DATELINE: May 19, 2009 - TEAM PICTURES have been scheduled for June 2 at 6:15pm. Please be there on time. Also we have been schedule to play in the state softball tourney in Lake Charles for "class B" teams on July 10-12. This means that during the later part of June we will have several practices and practice games against teams headed towards either the "class A" state tourney in Baton Rouge or the "class B" tourney. More details later. Class B is for recreation teams and non-travel teams.

DATELINE: May 18, 2009 - Just a quick note to say thanks to Mrs. Sorgee (Brook's mom) for all the pictures she has taken and let me use for the webpage. There are lots more of them on Brook's MySpace page... CLICK HERE.

DATELINE: May 15, 2009 - Weird would not be the half of tonight's game. There are middle school dances everywhere it seems and the girls really wanted to go to them. Add to that several parties and teams are struggling to field a full roster. We had plenty but the Dynomite's didn't. They could only field 6 players so the game was a forfeit. We played a short "for fun" game and brought home a win of sorts. But I will say this...the team looked better and Bayleigh was having fun on the mound. We made several good plays and we all left the field smiling after our shorten "scrimmage game".

DATELINE: May 13, 2009 - Fun while it lasted! Last night's game was the closest one of the season. With the exception of a coach's mistake (me of course) we just might have been able to tie this game. Time (SPAR's drop-dead, school's in session time) was about to cut the game short and I tried to push our chances just a little too much. But that all fall's back on the coach. Good game girl's. I enjoyed everything about the game itself.

DATELINE: May 9, 2009 - Embarrassing? It was easy to tell that this team needed more work both on offense and defense and THEY decided that we had to have more practice. I KNOW this is a young team but there is no reason why we should be making t-ball mistakes.

DATELINE: April 27, 2009 - Last night's game was fantastic. I enjoyed the game, the way the team played, and the way they tried so hard to compete. We may not have won but we are well on our way to becoming a very good team. It seems all the parts are now in place and it is just a matter of time before the SweetHearts are a team to beat. Thanks Brook and Bayleigh for your efforts too! It was a good game!

DATELINE: April 26, 2009 - You finally made it to "the list". All player's numbers for this year have been updated and online plus your name has now been added to the SweetHearts all-time roster.

DATELINE: April 25, 2009 - Batting practice: Not many showed up but those that did learned to hit, hit hard to all fields, bunt, and learned that they will be playing the whole game come Monday night for their efforts. Brook even got time catching balls from the pitching machine. She learned how to block the ball, use a larger mitt, ditch the face mask, and make one-step throws to second.

DATELINE: April 25, 2009 - What a difference a night makes. Last night we saw our team slowing begin to come around and start playing like we know it can. All the members began to click and make good throws, run well, and have fun. It's not perfect yet but the win helped. Maybe by Monday things will look even better as we get all of our players back. Bayleigh really began to get her pitching down and you can tell she wants to do well and it shows. Thanks ladies.

DATELINE: April 22, 2009 - We had a great practice the last two nights. Tuesday night was "in uniform" and the girls really looked sharp. I was very proud of each of them and very happy to see several of them do really good at their position.

See you Thursday ladies!.

DATELINE: April 18, 2009 - Uniforms are sorted, packed, and ready for delivery Monday night at the practice game (see schedule)....
Parent shirts will be available for $10 each. So many parents have asked therefore some sample shirts have been printed and more will be ordered if there is enough interest...
.

DATELINE: April 15, 2009 - Practice was cancelled tonight due to lack of players.

A tentative game schedule was worked on and posted elsewhere on the site. Understand that it is NOT official yet. It won't be for a couple of days yet. However, the schedule rarely changes after the coaches look over it and make their changes. We currently have seven 7:15 games and five 5:30 games.

Also the PRACTICE Schedule has changed for next week. We have added a practice game on Monday and one on Tuesday. The practice for Thursday was cancelled due to the season starting.

DATELINE: April 14, 2009 - Boy, did the holidays kill our practice? Only seven of 14 players showed up. We had Brook, Courtney, Hayleigh, Bayleigh, Lauren, Freja, Autumn at practice. It is easier to decide who will play what positions that's for sure.

We worked on base running, stealing, and Wednesday we will do batting drills in the cage at Carlyss.

DATELINE: April 11, 2009 - We didn't have everyone here but practice was still fast and furious. Shortstop, pitcher, and third seemed to be nailed down. First, second, and catcher seemed to still be undecided going into spring break. I have talented players there but just who will rise up to take the position is still in question. I'm hoping that one or more of my veterans will step up and take over a leadership role on this team.

Also updated today is the rosters from my two years as Bomb Squard Slow-Pitch coach. I believe the info is correct. I pulled the info from past roster lists from 2001 and 2002. Please check it (my other teams) and see if I missed anyhing. ~ coach

DATELINE: April 6, 2009 - Tonight was the first full team meeting and surprisingly, all went well except the weather. It was windy and cold - temps in the low 50s. We did find out that the team drafted a pitcher, catcher, short-stop and second base amoung all the other new members.

Even with the bitter wind chill practices went well, see y'all Saturday.

DATELINE: April 5, 2009 - AND THE SEASON BEGINS....Today we got to meet the players, try on uniforms, and just visit. That is until my returning players wanted me to come see a player pitch. Turns out, Hayleigh really does look good on the mound. She had proper form, proper arm strength, and good accuracy. Not bad for not pitching last year and not throwing a ball in several months. After I got the info her Dad shared, - she HAD taken lesson before and she retained all that information. At least today was a great start for the new season.

DATELINE: April 1, 2009 - AND THE PLAYERS ARE..... Hayleigh and Bayleigh Lanclos, Jillian Peterson, Brooke Hartstine, Madison Barrilleaux, Chelsea Gibson, Haley Campbell, and Lauren Quibodeaux.

DATELINE: April, 1, 2009 - Well, here we go. Tonight we select the next group of young ladies that will be come "part of our family". At 5:30pm coaches will meet in the Frasch Park meeting room to pick players from tryouts last Wednesday. I have already made my "picks" in my head but now it comes to just who I will be able to get and who is left when it's my turn. I hope Courtney, Brook, and Santana can make it.

DATELINE: March, 25, 2009 - Tonight was tryouts and the team had several members there to help look over future players and make notes about who 'we' would pick if we could. Courtney, Brook, and Santana wanted to help in any way they could helping pick a new group of girls. They marked the draft sheet with "YES", "NO" and "NEVER" - there was "Good Arm, weak throw, bad attitude, cheerleader, and can't catch...." they made many other comments that will help us in selecting just who will make a great "SweetHeart" for the future. Santana's Mom got a picture of us together for the first time in the 2009 season:

Draft will take place next Wednesday, April 1st in the Frasch meeting room at 5:30.

DATELINE: March, 23, 2009 - Tonight I get to umpire men's slowpitch again after a year's setting out. I'm really looking forward to it.

Wednesday night we have tryouts for 11-12 year olds on field #2 at Pattison, 5:30pm. Some of these young ladies will become the newest members of the SweetHearts. A few of my current players will arrive at about 5:15 to help me look over the new prospects.

Also, here's the banner we will use this year on the dugout:

Also tonight I had a note stuck on the windsheild of my truck asking me if I remembered these "ladies" - naw, since one of them played infield and pitched and the other - well there has been three Tracys - I wonder? :-):

DATELINE: March, 16, 2009 - This year I plan on honoring Savannah's two years as a SweetHeart by retiring the number 15 uniform. I also plan to have a memorial logo sown onto every uniform shirt or shorts. I have not made that decision as of yet. A sample of the logo is shown below:

EMAIL COACH what you think!

DATELINE: March, 14, 2009 - The Class B state tournament will be held in July. (Class B is for Recreation teams or local All-Star teams - No travel or tournament teams) This tourney will be in L.C. at the O.D. Johnson complex and is open to all age groups. If we have enough interest once we draft our team this year we may plan to take part in it. If we do, we will also get an invite to the regional class B tourney later in July at the same complex. We will just have to wait until draft is over to see we we have first. [Courtney, just wait a bit, okay? We have to have a team first!]

DATELINE: March, 5, 2009 - Santana just called and asked about "being on the team this summer". I have already made plans for her. Since she can't run - she can work as the photographer, scorekeeper, 1st base coach, dugout coach, whatever she wants!. I just want her on the team! EMAIL COACH

DATELINE: March, 5, 2009 - I umpired a JV softball game at Barbe last night and had a great time. It got me more in the spirit for the upcoming season. Today I got an email from an 11 year-old player in Vinton wanting to know if we would scrimmage them later. You know me I said yes, yes, yes. I also talked to the regional 12U class B tournament director about us getting into the tourney (LC) if I have enough players who wanted to do so. We might even look at going to BR for the state class B (rec teams) tournament if there's interest. EMAIL COACH

DATELINE: February, 24, 2009 - It was so nice to get an email from a former player today. Sara was a former pitcher from way back in the mid 80s. I really love getting emails from former players and coaches. SEND EMAIL

DATELINE: February, 16, 2009 - Tryouts will be held March 25, 5pm. Tryouts will be on April 1st, at 5pm. I'm looking for current players to help and come to tryouts on the 25th. You can help us find pitchers and catchers.

DATELINE: February, 14, 2009 - What a date to be checking my answering machine. A call from the park asked me "If I was going to be coaching again theis year"...... Well, DUH!!!
