What's going on with the SweetHearts in 2002
DATELINE: Friday, June 21 - The 20th Season is over, we finished 9-4-1, not bad for a mostly 11 year old team. We finished on a good note winning our final two games. I got "water gunned" after the game. No bucket of gatoraide over the head - just lots and lots of water guns soaking me. It was fun. I will miss Amanda, Claire, Caitlin, and Ashleigh, they have been so much fun to be around the past two years. Next season I will - Lord willing - coach my 300th game with the SweetHearts. I have to say I remember lots of them with fond memories. The water guns will join that list of all time favotie memories however. Thanks girls. Now on to Blue Thunder Tournament Ball and the Slow-Pitch season.
DATELINE: Wednesday, June 5 - What a disappointment. It had nothing to do with the game being a foreit win for us. Both teams wanted to play so the "game" went on WITHOUT umpires. They are not REQUIRED to stay and call but - as SPAR says - it would be nice for the girls ifthe teams want to play. Neither of our two young ladies were willing to stay and call even though they got paid no matter what. I was a little disappointed since one, Brandi, is always asking me for umpire advice or what a call should have been and I always help her out. The other umpire, Christine, is a former SweetHeart and four year member of Blue Thunder, my tournament team. I gave her four years of my life coaching her and also gave her her first start at shortstop as a 10-year old. She just won All-Southwest Louisiana Honors at shortstop - and she wouldn't stay and call. Now that hurts!
DATELINE: Thursday, May 30 - Tonight's game got rained out. It has been rescheduled for Wednesday, June 5, 5:30pm, field 13. That means we will have four games in a row new week.
DATELINE: Tuesday, May 14 - Last night the team put together a complete game. Five innings of good solid softball. Great pitching, great fielding, and finally in the fifth inning great hitting. Meghan and Amanda looked wonderful both on offense and defense. Both had homeruns. Now if we just teach the team to run on dropped thirds and base on balls! Pictures will be posted later today.
DATELINE: Friday, May 3 - What a great practice game last night. The other team never knew what hit them. We ran the the bases at will. It didn't take long to lose count of the times we crossed the plate. Rocket's pitching looked really good as she got into her own groove. The fielding was good but we still need work. It didn't help that two of our veteran infielders were at Beta Convention. Macy did great in only her second practice. We could have a spot for her on the infield real soon. I should have pictures posted later today. See the schedule webpage. Our first game is this coming Monday Night at 7:15 as we officially kick off the 20th season of the SweetHearts.
...
DATELINE: Tuesday, April 30 - Practice went great last night. The first couple of innings the team really looked good and showed signs that we would have a good summer. Rocket pitched a good game and Amanda showed that she was in control of the game. Caitlin moved over to shortstop and found a new home. The batting was okay too. Base running could be our strong point this season. Next practice game is Thursday. We will also pass out uniforms that night. The team would also like to welcome Macy to the 'Hearts!
DATELINE: Thursday, April 25 - Game schedules are ready. Check elsewhere on this site. First game will be May 6th.
DATELINE: Saturday, April 20 - Very productive day. Most of the team was there. Lots of batting and base running practice. Be sure to check updated schedule of events. NO PRACTICE MONDAY. See you at the Batting Cage in Maplewood on Tuesday.
DATELINE: Friday, April 19 - Tonight's practice went great. Would have been nicer with the entire
team but both teams on the field learned lots about base running, plays,
and batting. Rocket pitched super for her first night in this league.
She caught a pop up and pitched several strike outs. She and Amanda will
make a very good team together. Thanks to all who made it tonight. Next practice, Saturday Morning, 10:30AM in Carlyss. We will also have another practice game on Monday. See the schedule in this website
DATELINE: Monday, April 15 - Very productive practice. Worked on base running. HAd all 12 players here tonight. Added another practice to our schedule. Next practice - Wednesday 5:30, Field 34, Maplewood. We will have a practice game on Friday night. 6:30 Field 34, Maplewood. Saturday's practice has been moved to Carlyss.
DATELINE: Saturday, April 13 - It was warm at practice today but the team came around and looks really good. Caitlin began to take charge on the field today and helps keep everyone focused. With only four practices the team has to learn fast. Next Practice: Monday.
DATELINE: Friday, April 12 - Had pitching practice tonight. Looks very promising for this year. Added a new player today too. Welcome aboard Sumer. Lost a player tonight too. Katie decided to play slow pitch. Birthday page has been updated too. Practice Saturday 1pm-3pm.
DATELINE: Wednesday, April 10 - Great practice tonight. Best first practice I have had in many years. Missing three players but discovered great position players to fill our needs. Found a pitcher with a "rocket" arm and a much needed first baseman. Returning players looked pretty good too.
