What's going on with the SweetHearts in 2000
DATELINE: Saturday, June 24 - After discussions with the SPAR offices, the teams that have continued to have enough players can fill in games that have one of the teams already dropped for the season. Therefore, the SweetHearts plan to play several extra games next week. AT this point it looks like we will get two games against the Bayou Blasters, one against both the Nightmares and Funactics.
DATELINE: Saturday, May 27 - I was told not to put this picture online but what the heck. Normally these three girls are in shorts and uniform shirts on the ball field. I just wanted folks to know that my first baseman (woman - uh, girl, uh PERSON), catcher, and pitcher "clean up re-e-e-al nice". (he,he,he) Sorry Tris, Chel, and Jess!
DATELINE: Sunday, May 21 - Tomorrow's game with the Lady Electros has been pushed back to a 7:30+ start to allow for players to get to the park after a MMS Choir concert. Games this week are on Monday and Wednesday. Check out our schedule and game stories elsewhere on the site.
DATELINE: Saturday, May 13 - Maplewood's Playday was scheduled to begin today at 9AM but Sulphur Parks and Recreation's Mark David cancelled it for us due to the .32 inches of rain we got at 4:30 AM this morning. That's right POINT THREE TWO inches. The grass was barely wet. Since we couldn't get on our fields - but it seems boy's teams could - we had a family picnic instead (we had to use up all the food we bought). The day's weather was wonderful - sunshine, a light breeze, and NOT another drop of rain ALL day. This is about par, or should I say SPAR for the course. The SweetHearts have had only TWO full team get-togethers in the past four weeks due to rain and too few players and the season begins on Monday. Let's see what happens! Check back.
DATELINE: Monday, May 8 - Hey, we were all together tonight, including both coaches! Our practice game looked good - as practice goes - Chelsea allowed just one run to cross the plate, Jessi and Tristin pitched great, Lynnly looked good for no practice since last year, and we even got a couple of good hits off Stacey (course, she got a couple off us too). All in all, not a bad first real get-together. We did have to cancel Tuesday's practice game due to Maplewood Middle's Awards Night. We won't even have enough players for Saturday's Playday but we will be there anyway. The season starts next Monday - everyone said they will be there. We'll see.
DATELINE: Saturday May 6 - Lets see, rain, rain, and more rain washed out our last two practices, we have a practice game on Monday and Tuesday and we have had only ONE full practice!?! I can't even be sure we will have enough players for either game. Uniforms still nead to be passed out. Thanks Billy Navarre for the new uniforms! DATELINE: Monday, May 1 - Lynnly rejoined the team this week. Kristin has quit, therefore, instead of having a few extra players we are back to ten.
DATELINE: Wednesday, April 26 - First full practice last night. The team looks good. The infield is solid, the pitching is very strong, and with only 10 players our top hitters should get to bat often this year. Next practice is this Tursday, the 27 @6:30pm on field #6.
DATELINE: Monday, April 17 - Our first practice was a flop. Last Friday night Maplewood Middle held a dance and only two players showed for practice. Most didn't even call. A BIG No-no! Kristin was excused - it was her birthday hApPy BiRtHdAy!
DATELINE: Wednesday, March 29 - Draft was held today. With the large number of returning players returning we only drafted three players: Amanda Boudoin, Jessica Louviere, and Tristan Hager. Practices were also scheduled. See the 2000 schedule.
DATELINE: Monday, March 27 - Tryouts were held today. At this time it looks like we will have three teams on the east side and eight on the west side. The Sweethearts have seven returning players: Chelsea, Jessie, Kristin, Lindsay, Ashlei, Karrisa, and Courtney. It means most of our infield from last season is intact with C, P, 1B, 2B, and SS covered with veteran players. Draft will be Wednesday, March 29. The new roster will be posted at that time.
DATELINE: Tuesday March 21 - Tryouts for 11-12 year olds will be Monday, March 27 at North Frasch Park fields.
DATELINE: Wednesday, March 1 - All returning players need to call (527-2500) the Sulphur Parks and Recreation to let them know that they will be returning to the SweetHearts. Registration is scheduled for Feb. 21 - March 10. Call now.
