What went on for the SweetHearts in '99 and some final notes...

DATELINE: Monday July 5, 1999 - The season is over. We finished in second with a 12-2 record. The site has been updated. Photos and stats are current. We return about half the team next season including our pitcher and catcher. Our first win next year will be the 100th league game win. Thanks to everyone who visited us and we will see ya'll next spring. - Coach Greg

DATELINE: Tuesday, June 29, 1999 - Last night we blasted the Bayou Blasters in a rematch of an earlier game. Everyone knew it would be a 'war'. It was that and more. Anna struck out 12 of 18 batters and allowed just two hits in the 8-2 victory. The Blasters (11-1) were undefeated and still remain in first place with us in second. With one game to go we are now 11-2 and the year. The win also pushed the 'Hearts to a new all-time record for wins in a season.

DATELINE: Thursday, June 26, 1999 - Two games to go and we are 10-2, tied for second place. Not bad after starting 1-2 and playing the last five games with a very mis-matched infield. Jessi has looked great over the last four games. There's been lots of rain lately. Hope we can play on Monday night.

DATELINE: Wednesday, June 16, 1999 - We have upped our record to 6-2 but have no real chance to capture 1st place since the Bayou Blasters are undefeated. We are tied for second place behind the Blasters, 8-0, and with the Nightmares, 6-2.

DATELINE: Thursday, June 4, 1999 - We have improved our record to 4-2 and in the last three games outscored our opponents 62-1. One game left til the halfway point of the season. The Bayou Blasters are still undefeated. The Nightmares have one loss, so do the Baseburners. We are three runs out of first place. Tryouts for Blue Thunder, my tourney team, were held. Anna will be pitching with Chelsea catching.

DATELINE: Thursday, May 27, 1999 - After losing a heartbreaker to the Bayou Blasters on Monday, we came back and took it out the helpless Fireballs, 20-0 in 2 innings. The Fireballs coach threw in the towel after her first six batters were cut down in just 18 pitches.

DATELINE: Wednesday, May 19, 1999 - Played the Base Burners, the other Hazel Street Team. We won but it didn't look good. Jessi pitched well getting 10 strike outs. It's nice to have TWO top-notch pitchers this year. We still need to work on base running skills and do a little minor defensive work.

DATELINE: Monday, May 17, 1999 - Played the Nightmares tonight and lost. It was a great 1-1 ballgame thru three innings. Then they started back at the top of their order while we still had half a line up to go. When you bat ther roster in league play, their nine will always beat my 15. Anna struck out 14 of 25 batters, a great start this season. Now on to our next game Wednesday night.

DATELINE: Sunday, May 16, 1999 - Just finished the MGSA Playday yesterday where we looked fairly good on defense and great at the plate. Everyone got a couple of hits in our final scrimmage against the Baseburners. Looking forward to the opening of the season Monday night against the Nightmares.
