Tbay, Year 2, Day 75
Went to Tbay's newest nite club on the weekend... WARP 9!! Imagine my excitement. Despite the nerdy name, there were no trekkies dressed up as Vulcans or Species 8472 or whatever.

There was the requisite gaudy neon sign mounted on flimsy aluminum siding that would be no match for a phaser blast. At least they got the font right. As I walked inside, I noticed something... I could breathe! The ventilation system was really good, the cigarette smoke didn't start burning my eyes till maybe 3 hours after i got there. No live band this time, but the DJ did play Bryan Adams - Summer of 69. Must be the unofficial anthem of Tbay or something.

That's not really a picture of Bryan and Jason, it's a picture of the "security officer." The only Star Trek-like stuff inside Warp 9 were the outfits that some of the staff were wearing. Gold for security and blue for the guys who pick up empties. There was even a bald man in blue who looked like Capt. Picard.

Didn't see any command officers, either. The weird thing was that the waitresses were in their own skimpy clothing. I can think of tons of skimpy Trek related outfits. Maybe they should dress like Daabo (sp?) girls or wear those miniskirt outfits like in the original series. Ok, better stop the nerd talk before it's too late. 8)

Tbay, Year 2, Day 68
I hate Mondays. Found out this morning that Tbay Transit is cancelling my bus for a week cuz the Bombardier factory that supplies most of the riders is shutdown for a week. wtf!? So now i have to walk 2 km on the shoulder of the road to get to a bus stop that will actually have buses going by it. and of course, it's going to be hot, humid and rainy this week. That's just craptacular. One thing i won't miss about thunder bay is their public transit system. Perhaps i've just been (gasp!) spoiled by the TTC where you normally don't have to wait 40 minutes for another bus if you miss one... never thought i'd say that.
Anyway, click here for a more demented view of my weekend excursion to Old Fort William.

Tbay, Year 2, Day 67
Went to Old Fort William on Saturday cuz admission was FREE! It's the world's largest fur trading post. It was a beautiful day, except for the fact that there was an annoying news helicopter buzzing around a lot of the time. Bet they didn't have those back in the fur trading days. I think Pioneer Village in Toronto was more interesting. Then again, I was 9 years old when I last went there... Anyhow, it was a nice, relaxing, inexpensive way to spend the afternoon.

Tbay, Year 2, Day 61
AAAAAGH! How can it be July already!? Much as i'm enjoying the warmer weather, there's a part of me that wishes it was freezing January again. In January i didn't have to think about what courses I have to choose for school in September. In January i didn't have to think about my chem eng thesis topic. In January i didn't have to think about how to shoehorn all the stuff i've accumulated over 16 months into boxes and send it all back to toronto.
K, enough with the ranting. Let's see what i did on my week off...
1. Slept in - EVERY DAY! Ah, precious, precious sleep...
2. Watched Terminator 3. By the time the next sequel comes out, Ahh-nold will need a seriously souped-up wheelchair to get around.
3. Played boardgames. It really sucks to get all vowels or all consonants in Scrabble. And for the first time in my 22 years, I played Monopoly by the rules. Who knew you had to own a whole colour group to be able to buy houses and hotels?
4. Put together particle board furniture. I had forgotten the "fun" of matching up screws and other connecting devices that don't quite look like their pictures in the instruction manual...
5. Was denied the use of a free food coupon at a certain Chinese fast food place. All because there was no expiry date indicated on the "expiry date" blank. Just wait till i find an "official looking" date stamp...then they'll HAVE to give me their mediocre and msg-laden pseudo-Chinese food, which i'd only pay for if i was desperate.
6. Why are you still reading?
7. Narrowed down which artsie electives i want to take next year. How can i choose from such exciting courses like Cities of the Apocalypse in Asia Minor, Introduction to to Cognitive Science, Persons, Minds & Bodies, Philosophy of Physics???
8. Went to a bbq. Mmmm...carcinogen covered meat...
9. That's all i remember. And the 3 minutes you spent reading this journal entry? You'll never get them back. hehehe.
