Brief Summaries of UN Resolutions - Security Council, 1990-1999

Resolution 648 (31 January 1990)  --  Decides to extend mandate of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Lebanon.

Resolution 655 (31 May 1990) --  Calls on all parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 659 (31 July 1990) --  Responding to Lebanon letter, decides to extend mandate of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another interim period of six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Lebanon.

Resolution 672 (12 October 1990) --  Reaffirming UN Security Council Resolutions 242 & 338 and Geneva Conventions (1949) is applicable to Israeli occupation, expresses alarm at Holy Places violence on 8 October, especially violence by Israeli army, and calls on Israel to obey Geneva Conventions (1949).

Resolution 673 (24 October 1990) --  Alarmed at Israeli violation of UN Security Council Resolution 672 and refusal to accept UN Secretary-General mission, urges Israel to change position.

Resolution 679 (30 November 1990) --  Calls on all parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 681 (20 December 1990) --  Reaffirming applicability of Geneva Conventions (1949) to Israeli occupation, and expressing concern over Israeli violation of UN Security Council Resolutions 672 & 673, and continuing deportation of Palestinians, requests high contracting party to the Geneva Conventions (1949) to get Israel to respect and accept Geneva Conventions (1949) in their occupation and to meet with ICRC to consider how to enforce this.  Requests Secretary-General to monitor situation of Palestinian civilians in occupation.

Resolution 694 (24 May 1991) --  Declares Israel in violation of Geneva Conventions (1949) and relevant UN Security Council Resolution  as it deports more Palestinians, and implores Israel to return the deportees immediately.

Resolution 726 (6 January 1992) -- Reaffirming the applicability of Geneva Conventions (1949) to Israeli occupation, the Security Council strongly condemns Israel continuing deportations, and requests Israel halt further deportations and immediate return deportees to their homes.

Resolution 768 (30 July 1992) --  Responding to Government of Lebanon, decides to extend mandate of UN Interim Force for another six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Lebanon.

Resolution 790 (25 November 1992) --  calls on all parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 799 (18 December 1992) --  Strongly condemns Israeli violation of Geneva Conventions (1949), reaffirming applicability of Geneva Conventions (1949) to Israeli occupation, as well as respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon, demands Israeli return immediately the deportees to their homes.

Resolution 803 (28 January 1993) --  Responding to Government of Lebanon, decides to extend mandate of UN Interim Force for another six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Lebanon.

Resolution 830 (26 May 1993) --  Calls on all parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 852 (28 July 1993) --  Responding to Government of Lebanon, decides to extend mandate of UN Interim Force for additional six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Lebanon.

Resolution 887 (29 November 1993) --  Calls on all parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 895 (28 January 1994) --  Responding to Government of Lebanon, decides to extend mandate of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Lebanon.

Resolution 904 (18 March 1994) --  Reaffirming applicability of Geneva Conventions (1949) to Israeli occupation, strongly condemns 1994 massacre of 50+ Palestinian civilians in Hebron, urges Israel to continue disarming and law-enforcement against Israeli settlers, and to protect Palestinian civilians, including allowing in a temporary International Peacekeeper force as per Interim Agreement, and to implement this agreement immediately.

Resolution 921 (26 May 1994) --  Calls on all parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 938 (28 July 1994) --  Responding to Government of Lebanon, decides to extend mandate of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another six months, and reiterates its strong support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Lebanon.

Resolution 962 (29 November 1994) --  Calls on all parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 974 (30 July 1995) --  Responding to Lebanon government, decides to renew mandate of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another period of six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Lebanon.  Endorses looking into steamlining the force.

Resolution 996 (30 May 1995) --  Calls on all parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another period of six months.

Resolution 1006 (28 July 1995) --  Responding to Government of Lebanon, decides to extend mandate of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Lebanon.  Condemns the increased violence against the UN Interim Force and urges the parties to end it.

Resolution 1024 (28 November 1995) --  Calls on all parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 1039 (29 January 1996) --  Responding to Government of Lebanon, decides to extend mandate of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Lebanon.  Condemns violence against UN Interim Force and welcomes streamlining of the force.

Resolution 1052 (18 April 1996) --  Calls upon all parties to cease hostilities and continue diplomatic efforts, ensure safety of civilians and halt hostilities toward UN Interim Force, reaffirms support for territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon, and asks member-states to provide humanitarian assistance.

Resolution 1057 (30 May 1996) -- Calls on all parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 1068 (30 July 1996) --  Responding to the Government of Lebanon, decides to extend the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another six months, condemns the violence against the force urging the parties to stop, and welcomes the efforts to streamline the force.  Reiterates its strong support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon.

Resolution 1073 (28 September 1996) --  Noting with concern the intention of the Israeli government to build a tunnel with entrance near the Al Aqsa Mosque, and the violent fighting throughout the occupied territories resulting in high number of Palestinian civilian deaths, including with Palestinian police, calls on end to all provocative acts, and ensurance of safety for all Palestinian civilians.

Resolution 1081 (27 November 1996) --  Calls on all parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 1095 (28 January 1997) --  Responding to Government of Lebanon, decides to extend mandate of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon.  Condemns violence especially against the force, and urges all parties to stop it, and encourages further efforts at increasing efficiency and savings.

Resolution 1109 (28 May 1997) --  Calls on the parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 1122 (29 July 1997) --  Responding to Government of Lebanon, decides to extend mandate of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon.

Resolution 1139 (21 November 1997) --  Calls on all parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 1151 (30 January 1998) --  Responding to Government of Lebanon, decides to extend mandate of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon.

Resolution 1169 (27 May 1998) --  Calls on the parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 1188 (30 July 1998) --  Responding to Government of Lebanon, decides to extend mandate of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon.

Resolution 1211 (25 November 1998) --  Calls on the parties to implement immediately its UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 1223 (28 January 1999) --  Responding to Government of Lebanon, decides to extend mandate of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon.

Resolution 1243 (27 May 1999) --  Calls on the parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.

Resolution 1254 (30 July 1999) --  Responding to Government of Lebanon, decides to extend  mandate of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon for another six months, and reiterates support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Lebanon.

Resolution 1265 (17 September 1999) -- condemns the targeting of civilians in armed conflicts and interfering with humanitarian workers and UN workers and use of child soldiers, and urges all parties to fulfill all humanitarian laws and ratify all humanitarian laws and treaties (for those who have not already), and to work toward including special protections for those requiring special attention (such as women and children).  UN acknowledges the new humanitarian laws, commits to working closer with International Committee of the Red Cross and regional groups, and with civilian police more, and trying to inhibit spread of small weapons.

Resolution 1276 (24 November 1999) --  Calls on the parties to implement immediately UN Security Council Resolution 338 (1973), and to renew mandate of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force for another six months.
