Australian Mole 3
Episode 10

Bob wasn't The Mole. Maybe he had the right Mole, but didn't have enough questions correct, or maybe he was absolutely wrong about his Mole choice. Three people remained. One of them is the Mole!

So who is The Mole? Which of these three people have been deliberately losing money?
Suspect number one: Alaina

Alaina:"I'm not The Mole, I'm here to win the money, so hopefully that's how it will turn out."
In episode 5 Alaina solved the murder mystery. Flashback: Alaina:"...So I have decided that Bob is the murderer."
The host ask if it's true and Bob says it is. Marc:"Stupid! Absolutely stupid response!!"
She got the exemption, but it cost the group $5,000.
In episode 6, she drove her scooter off the road.
Flashback: Alaina:"I don't want to ride the bike, I don't want to do either one."
It wasted time and nearly costed them the assignment. Flashback: Alaina:"I'm so scared. I'm just petrified of driving in the edge."
And in the previous episode, Alaina did the tandem jump, but not the solo. It cost them another $5,000. Flashback: Alaina:"I was pretty pleased with myself just doing the tandem jump and I thought 'Why push it? One jumpe in one day is anough."

Suspect number 2: Crystal-Rose

Crystal-Rose:"No I'm not The Mole. Look at me, how can I be The Mole? I can't deceive people."
In episode 5, Crystal-Rose refused to bungee. Flashback: Crystal-Rose:"Nooo waaay!"
She also refused to parachute jump last episode.
In episode 6 her disguise won her a free paas, but the team missed out on $10,000. That night, she turend down a deal that would have made them $20,000. All she had to do is give up her exemption but she didn't. Flashback: Host:"What would you say if I offered you $20,000 if you give up the exemption?" Crystal-Rose:"No."

Suspect number 3: Marc

Marc:"I'm not The Mole for the simple reason that I'm a lawyer and my job is about finding the truth, not creating lies."
In episode 4, it was Marc who sent the confusing sms. Flashback: Marc:"No, let's not do any of that, I've got the phone, I'll give the directions." And the bad instructions cost the team $5,000.
In episode 6, he broke the rules by buying stamps. Flashback: Host:"Do you think a used antique stamp will be worthless or just worth less? Also a $0.45 postage fee, that got payed with a $400 stamp, is wastage."
And in episode 8, with the painting challenge... Flashback: Marc:"I'll keep the tail stumpy, because of the size of the bill." His badly drawn platapus tail, cost them yet another $5,000.

Day 19
One of these people will soon be revealed as the traitor, one of them will walk away with nothing and one of them will win the entire prize kitty.

Crystal-Rose
:"To be quite honest I can't... see myself winning. But I have got this far. I'm in the final."
Alaina:"To be so close to winning is just blowing my mind. I could have over $100,000 in my pocket very soon."
Marc:"I'll be a little angry if I don't win. And there's no such thing as a runner-up. You're a loser if you don't win in this game."

But first, they have another challenge to do, which could earn them $5,000. The host gives them each a heart rate monitor they have to put on. Alaina's heart rate at this moment is 106 beats per minute. Crystal-Rose's is about the same. And Marc's is 83. They have to control their heart rates and keep it below 150, while they each have to complete a different task.
Alaina has to capture and release a wild snake.
Crystal-Rose has to have a close encounter with a leopard shark.
Marc has to remove the eggs of a nest of a saltwater crocodile.

Marc has to get the eggs out of a nest of a very protective female crocodile and keep his heart rate under 150 beats per minute. He meets the instructor, who asks him if he has ever seen live crocodiles. Marc says he hasn't. The instructor throws a piece of meat near the water and a crocodile comes running out, making a lot of noise. This is a male crocodile, now he's going to meet the females.

Alaina has to capture a snake that's been spotted in a house and she too must keep her heart rate below 150. She too gets told how to do it by an instructor. He tells her that the snake has been described as having a plain colour and white leaps. He shows her which species of snake it could be. A water python, which can grow quite large and it hurts if it bites you, but it's not venomous. It could also be another type of snake, which also bites, but isn't venomous, but unfortuantely for Alaina it could also be a Taipan, the world's most dangerous snake.

Crystal-Rose has to scubadive in a shark tank and touch a leopard shark. She's standing outside of the shark tank and looks through the windows. "At the moment my heart rate is actually really good, it's 98 something, but I'm a bit nervous about these red sharks. They don't like very nice to me. I'm up to 100. I'm going to touch one of those leopard sharks and hope my heart rate will stay below 150, which for now, seems it will be." She's confident about it, but is yet to get into the tank, let alone touch the shark.

It's unlikely that the snake Alaina's looking for will be a taipan, but she can't be sure. With a metal rod with a hook on it, she's searching the garage of the house. She opens a box and suddenly startles. The box is filled with leather belts and she thought it was the snake. If her heart rate ever goes above the 150 limit, she'll lose the team $5,000. She searches through the umbrella stand, but can't find anything and then goes through the cupboard. She opens a box with the hook and the snake is in it. It's not a taipan, but a water python, which is not venomous, but can still bite very nasty. Her heart is already pounding, but to complete the assignment she has to handle the snake: "It's disgusting! It's wiggling alone and..." She kneels next to the box and puts her hand in a bit, but quickly takes it out again. "Maybe if I just touch it like that first." She touches the snake, but it moves and she jumps up, letting out a small scream. "I really don't want to do this." The instructor captures the snake and asks if she wants to do it in the bag, but she doesn't "I hate reptiles. Sorry little snakey."
But she still has a chance when they will release the snake. The instructor wants to put it around her neck, but she doesn't want that. She reaches out her hand though and the instructor puts it in her hands. She's now handling the snake, so she's completing her task, but her heart is going beserk. If it's going over 150, she loses out on the $5,000.

It's Crystal-Rose's first time that she goes scuba diving and it's in a shark filled tank. Something brushes over her leg and she yells:"Ohw! What was that!" Her heart rate is going over 130 and she's yet to touch one of the sharks. An instructor is with her. He has fish to lure the sharks to them. One is arriving. Crystal-Rose:"Ugh, just get away! Aaah! No!" She reaches out and touches it, but her heart is still racing and she's about to get a very nasty shock. Her hand is resting on a rock and suddenly she lets out a really loud scream! She has been bitten (or at least nibbed) by a junior shark. She wants to get out immediately. The shark bite isn't dangerous, but her heart rate went through the roof. Her finger is bleeding, but she will survive the shark attack. But did her heart rate stay below 150?

It's no Marc's turn for his assignment. A female crocodile is preventing about 30 eggs in her nest and they have to go get them out. Harvesting eggs is a routine operation at the croc farm. But the crocodiles are unpredictable and can be really agressive. Marc's heart is already racing and he's just standing on the side. "I don't really want to do it, to tell you the truth." Instructor:"It's an opportunity of a life time." Marc:"I'm not looking at it as an opportunity just yet. I'm looking at it as a possibility as having some serious damage done to me." If he doesn't do it, they will miss out on $5,000. The instructors go first to show him how it's done. Even behind the safety fence, his heart is racing to a 120 pounds per minute. The crocodiles are really agressive and grawl angrily. The instructor has started harvesting the eggs. He asks if Marc still wants to come. All he needs to do is step into the enclosure. The crocodile is being quiet in the water, but Marc doesn't want to go. He has lost the team $5,000, so the other two have done their challenge in vain. But they don't know yet. They watch the heart rates monitors together.
Alaina's heart rate has stayed below 150 all the time. It peeked up highly twice. One time was when she thought she saw the snake, but it were belts and the second time when she touched it for the first time.
Crystal-Rose stays well below 150. Though there was a bit of excitment in the middle. Crystal-Rose:"I got nibbed by a shark." Alaina laughs. Marc:"Since when do sharks nib?" Crystal-Rose:"Well if it was a bite, I wouldn't have a finger. I think it thought my finger was a prawn or something." Her heart rate only got up to 136. Well below the 150 limit.
Marc is last. He shows a crocodile egg:"This is a crocodile egg, and do you know how hard I had to work to get it? Not hard at all, because I didn't do it."  Crystal-Rose:"Are you serious?!" Marc:"Excuse me, a female crocodile protecting a nest of eggs? There was absolutely no way I would have done it."

Marc
:"I didn't do my part of the assignment. I had a genuine fear, but I also didn't do it because I wanted Alaina to think that I was The Mole. The way today this challenge turned out, clearly indicated to me that Crystal-Rose is The Mole even though she swam with the shark, because she knew that either Alaina or me or both of us, would not do it. That's my theory... it could be wrong."

They missed out on $5,000 and have only one more chance left of adding money to the kitty. And this, their final assignment takes place in a casino. They get $15,000 worth of chips out of their kitty. Each gets $5,000. A series of questions will be asked by the host. Then 4 cards will be drawn with an answer on each card.
Question 1: In what European city... Marc already comes between:"I hate Europe." would you find the Tivoli Gardens?
Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Rome or Vienna?
Crystal-Rose bets $800 on Amsterdam. Marc puts $300 on Copenhagen and $300 on Amsterdam. Alaina puts $600 on Rome, but also puts $200 on Vienna, just to be safe. They have bet a total of $2,200 on it.
The correct answer is Copenhagen. They lose $1,900, but win $900, because of Marc. So their nett loss is $1,000.
Question 2: Up until 1911 the Northern Territory capital city of Darwin was known by what name?
Pitt Town, Salisbury, Palmerston or Hanover.
Marc and Crystal-Rose don't think it's Hanover, but Alaina's doubting about Salisbury. Marc puts $500 on Pitt Town because it sounds like it wouldn't be that and $500 on Palmerston. Crystal-Rose puts $400 on Palmerston and $200 on Salisbury. Alaina puts $300 on Pitt Town. Crystal-Rose quickly puts $200 on Hanover to be sure. The correct answer is Palmerston. They win $1,5000.
Question 3: The north-east corner of South Australia is called what?
Haddon Corner, Surveyor-General's Corner, Poeppel's corner or Cameron Corner.
Alaina:"Obviously it's named after a person. It could be named after two people: surveyor and general." They all laugh. Marc:"It would be silly to discount anything at this stage, except that suggestion."
Crystal-Rose puts five on Haddon Corner. Alaina puts $500 on Surveyor-General's Corner, Marc $500 on Poeppel's Corner. Crystal-Rose outs $300 on Cameron Corner and adds $100 to the $500 she put on Haddon Corner. Marc is still overlooking it all. Alaina:"You want to put it on Surveyor-General, don't you?" and laughs. Marc:"I do, but I don't." He puts another $500 with Haddon Corner. The correct answer is Haddon Corner. They win $1,700 and only have two more questions to go.
Question 4: Which of these countries was the last to join the United Nations?
Kazachstan, Switzerland, Portugal or Cuba.
Crystal-Rose puts $700 on Cuba. Marc want to put a thousand dollar bet on something and the others encourage him. He puts $500 on KAzachstan and $500 on Cuba, but then changes his mind and puts it all on Portugal. Alaina puts $500 on Kazachstan and adds $500 to Cuba. They have bet $3,000 and have left Switzerland empty. The correct answer is... Switzerland! They lose $3,000.
Final question and final assignment of The Mole: Which one of these actors/actresses is famous by their original name?
Winona Ryder, Tom Cruise, Sharon Stone or Nicholas Cage.
Crystal-Rose thinks Winona, Alaina thinks it's Tom Cruise and says she thinks that Nicholas Cage has changed his name.
Marc:"It's not Sharon Stone, is it?" Alaina:"No, she's changed her name." Marc:"But Cruise is like... sailing. He's cruising. Because he has a lot of money, I dunno." Alaina laughs.
Crystal-Rose puts $400 on Tom Cruise and $600 on Winona Ryder. Alaina bets $900 on Tom Cruise. It's all she has left. Marc puts $500 on Winona Ryder and $500 on Tom Cruise. They have bet $2,900 only on Tom Cruise and Winona Ryder.
The correct answer is Sharon Stone! Overall instead of winning money, they have lost $5,000. Their kitty has gone from $113,000 to $108,000.

Marc
:"To blow $5,000 in the casino didn't really sink in for me. When you just see the chips, it's hard to think that you're actually throwing away real money."
Crystal-Rose:"It doesn't really seem like real money, but we had a good time blowing it, that's the main thing."
Alaina:"Your value of money totally changes during the show. Now it's like 'Oh well, it's only $5,000' you know?"

The contestants are taken somewhere by helicopter. They will do the final questionnaire there. They have left 9 people behind them and are in the final round.

Marc
:"I came on the show firstly because it would be an adventure and I'd do a whole lot of things that I would have never done before. Secondly, there was a pride issue to me. I had a point to prove to myself in terms of being able to play the game and to play it well."
Crystal-Rose:"For me it was a journey where I could discover my abilities in some way and to see what I can do."
Alaina:"I came on the show just for the experience as a whole. I've done a lot of things I didn't think I would do. All the physical stuff were most exciting, sort of adrenalin pumping activities."

Flashback: Episode 1: The raft instructor asks if they're ready and they take off.

Marc:"The first really memorable moment I had was the rafting. I hadn't felt as charged as I did when we actually finished. I haven't felt more part of the team than I did with Alaina, Pete and Yasmin at the end of that."
Flashback: The last raft flips over and they fall into the wild river.
Crystal-Rose:"The rapids was an amazing experience. Looking back at it I enjoyed getting scared and getting worried that I might actually die."

Flashback: Episode 9: Alaina coutns down and jumps tandem out of the airplane.
Alaina:"The freefaal feeling and everything, it was excellent."
Flashback: Marc does the solo jump.
Marc:"Probably the biggest rush was the skydiving. I felt like I had achieved something significant, because I was in control with it myself."

Crystal-Rose:"I've always been petrified of sharks." We see some footage shown earlier in this episode where she's screaming. "So I was amazed that I completed today's task. that was pretty major for me."

There were plenty of highlights, but there were also times when some of the contestants just wanted to give up and go home.
Flashback: episode 6: Alaina drives her scooter off the road into the edge.
Alaina:"The scooter challenge was quite bad. The whole day was a nightmare. I was so scared going up the mountain on that scooter." Flashback: Alaina:"I'm just petrified now of driving in the edge." "It's funny I had a moped accident and I survived."
Marc:"I feel really bad about almost causing a serious accident for Alaina with the bike."
Flashback: Alaina:"Exactly, so I'm going to stop right now, whether you like it or not. You f***ing want me to stop, I'm stopping." She stops and throws the bike to the ground. "You don't get to choose everything, alright? You f***!"
Marc:"That for me was probably the lowest point. That and challenging Bob in the Weakest Link as to what reasons he had to screw us over."
Flashback: Episode 4 Bob:"One day you'll all understand why I did this. Forget wanting that free pass."
Marc:"Why don't you just tell us now, Bob? Instead of 'one day'?"
Bob:"OK. I wanted to do something to impress my kids." He walks off and starts crying behind the door
.
Marc:"He wanted to impress his kids. I felt bad that I took out my anger and prompted it to him unfairly."

Alaina:"I even said in the beginning 'I hope they don't want us to bungee, because I'm not going to bungee jump.' But when I got there I really wanted to do it and it was a great feeling."
Crystal-Rose:"The bungee to me was very hard. To actually admit that I couldn't do something."

Crystal-Rose:"For me to make it this far is an achievement itself and no one can take that away from me. I might not win the money, but what I've gained as a person is priceless."
Alaina:"If I'm the runner-up, it's gonna feel terrible. Having come this far to not win would totally suck."
Marc:"If I will be revealed as the runner-up, I will be shattered. There's nothing like a runner-up, you either win or you fail."

They have arrived at the island where the final questionnaire will take place. Each contestant has to go in a separate tent to take the test. The tent is zipped up and they are all alone, answering 20 questions about The Mole. Who scores highest, knows more about Te Mole than anyone else and will win $108,000, which they all earned together.

Suspicious in this episode
Marc
didn't do his part of the assignment.
Alaina didn't win much money, and she was even out of chips in the end.
Did Crystal-Rose know one of the other two didn't do their part of the first assignment, so she could easily do it?

Suspicions
Crystal-Rose
:"I had suspicions for Alaina from the beginning, but I disregarded them quite quickly. Basically because we got to know each other and I let that stand in the way."
Marc:"I think that alaina made silly but crucial mistakes along the way that made her suspicious as The Mole."
Crystal-Rose:"Because she's a female and she's small and pretty. A lot of men I know wouldn't suspect her as being The Mole."
Marc:"I think the hiking challenge. She was at it both times that we should take the bags and not the money."
Crystal-Rose:"It's hard to pinpoint as specific reason. It's mainly a gut instinct."

Marc:"Crystal-Rose could definitely be The Mole. She's been very inconspicuous. If I'd be The Mole, that would be the appraoch I would take it."
Alaina:"Crystal-Rose is a good candidate for The Mole because you wouldn't suspect her straightaway. And she's clever enough to do it, I think she's proved that she's not the typical model."
Marc:"She also has the ability to play dumb and she's not dumb at all. She's higly intelligent and switched on the whole time."
Alaina:"There are a couple of things that Crystal has done, which might have been an attempt of sabotage. she didn't do the bungee jump and the parachute jump."
Marc:"During the scooter challenge, when Alaina left the bike and switched to the moped, Crystal was very forceful in suggesting that she should take the bike, however she cycled slowly and stopped frequently, with her head between her knees and complained about how hard it was and that cost us time."

Crystal-Rose:"Marc is a very intellectual person. He's extremely intelligent. He's a lawyer so he knows how to manipulate people."
Alaina:"He acts all the time, so you don't know when he's actually being himself. He's very good at pretending he hasn't done something or that he has."
Crystal-Rose:"When we were worked together in the lasershooting, he really walked into a lot of boobietraps and I was the one pulling him back. Cause I saw them and he apparently didn't."
Alaina:"The day we had to spend $5,000 he came up with the fantastic idea of the stamps. In the end it was wrong and it cost us $5,000. It was a really perfect sabotage."
Crystal-Rose:"When he gave us the instructions to try to find the bags that had been thrown out of the airplane, it was very brief and very difficult to find out where the bags actually were. I'm going to go with my gut instinct and that's the way it's going to be."

The host asks if they're all finished. The questionnaires have been filled out, the results are known. He asks all of them to stand up and move to a switch next to their desk. When the host says "Switch on!" they have to turn the switch. The winner's tent wil remain illuminated.

Host:"Switch on!"
Two tents are in darkness. One tent is full of light. Who is the winner? Who is The Mole, and who is the loser?

Read on below...

Crystal-Rose is the winner of $108,000!! She's really happy and emotional. Together with the host, she releases The Mole. They walk to the tent and she zips the tent open. ALAINA comes walking out. They hug each other and congratulate each other.
Marc is asked to join them. He came so close, but wins nothing. He feels exhausted, shattered and disappointed. He thought Crystal-Rose was The Mole.

How you could have known
Australia decided not to do an extra episode with the hints and sabotages of The Mole, but goes over it briefly in the end of this episode.

In episode 1, it is told that there are 12 contestants. However, in the intro sequence, you only see 11. Alaina is missing. But it goes so fast, you barely even notice.

Episode 2: The contestants have a choice: take a bag of camping gear or take $1,000. It's Alaina who convinces the others to take the bag each time. Flashback: Alaina:"We've got to take something up, because we're staying up there." Marc:"But why can't we just go for the money and stay up there for one night with nothing?" Alaina:"For $1,000? It's not worth it."
That same night, another $1,000 goes missing from Bob's bag. In a confession cam you never saw, she confesses all: "I did actually steal the $1,000."
In the laser shoot out, she trips the alarm and leads Yasmin into a dead end. They hide in a closet, but can't go anywhere and get shot.

Episode 3: They must choose a car for Yasmin.
Mole cam:"I was fully aware that she really likes classy and older looking cars." However, she pushes for the lamborghini Flashback: Alaina:"This is the one. This is going to rock her world like seriously."
Mole cam:"It was obvious to me that she would go for the Bentley."
Flashback: Yasmin to Alaina:"I told you yesterday how much I liked old cars!"
Alaina:"A lamborghini was so not something Yasmin would ever choose and I knew that, so that was easy. That was good and it worked well."

That night, there's one particular question in the challenge where Joe had to pretend he was suffering a lot of pain. The question was: Flashback Question 7: Which car manufacturer has a black bull as symbol? They go for the Chrysler, but it's wrong. It's lamborghini. Alaina should have known that question very well, since she drove in one the same day. And it lost them $5,000 in the ned.

Episode 4 and they have the surprise of their lives. Flashback:"Contestants, take off your masks."
But that was only half their assignment, because a production map was planted in the waiting room. Their prize money could be taken away. It's Alaina who showed the folder to Marc, but lucky for them, he didn't take the bait.

The next day, she got everyone lost when they had to find the luggage. The directions Marc sent told them to go to a horse stud, north-west to Burleigh Heads Dam. But what Alaina asks for is... Flashback:Alaina:"We're looking for a dam near Burleigh Heads that might have a resort near it." It sends them on a wild goose chase and they lose $5,000.

Episode 5: Alaina breaks the law. She phones while driving. Flashback: Ann-Maree throws the phone at Alaina.
Mole cam:"In the rush of it all, I picked it up, so that was an easy thing to do." It cost them $5,000.

In the bungee assignment, Ann-Maree refused to jump and because everyone had to jump in order to double the money, Alaina now could jump without winning too much money and to put suspicion of her tail.
Mole cam:"I don't think people will think that The Mole would do that, because it's an easy opportunity to just pull out."
But in a quick act of sabotage, she also takes some money away, by discouraging Crystal-Rose to jump. Flashback: Crystal-Rose:"How was it?" Alaina:"Scary! It's bloody scary when you're up there."

Episode 6: Crystal-Rose is in disguise ad the others have to find her.
Mole cam:"At Warner Brothers Movie World, I stopped Marc from into Crystal. That worked really well."
Flashback:Crystal-Rose is still at Loony Tunes Park and she's having her photo taken with her fake family. Alaina and Marc are walking straight towards them. Alaina:"Watch out Marc, those people are taking a picture!" And so they turn right just in front of Crystal-Rose and walk off.

In the scooter ride, Alaina's accident was genuin, but it cost them time and nearly cost them the challenge.

Episode 7: The relay race. They complete it successfully, but the only person, who knocked any eggs off the cones, was Alaina. It cost them $1,000.
Mole cam:"It was really embarrassing to have to purposely knock over those eggs, because it made me look like a really bad driver and I'm not, but you know, you gotta do these things."

In Episode 8 Alaina tells us what it feels like when her name is typed into the elimination computer. Flashback: Alaina:"It's total relief when the green screen comes up. It's just relief and confirmation that I'm doing the right thing. That I'm answering the questionnaire correctly."
But she's lying, because throughout the series her name has never even been typed into the elimination computer, so she can't know what it feels like to have the green screen. (note: to compensate for this, I put Alaina's picture last at every elimination)

Later that day, she goes first in the paraglide bombing. She was the only one who hit the target.
Mole cam:"I was able to figure out that the best way to hit the target was to be right on top of it and just let it drop down, because there wasn't much wind. And then my advice to the others was to throw it from the right."
Flashback: Alaina agrees and tells them that they have to try to fly a bit to the right of the target and then throw the bomb to the left.
Mole cam:"I don't know if they followed my directions, but none of them hit the target."

In the same episode, Crystal-Rose and Marc had to draw a platapus and the others had to guess what it was. Flashback: Ann-Maree:"I think it's a platapus." Alaina:"I thought it might have been a mole."
Mole cam:"Today I was so blatantly to be The Mole. It was really easy. The moment I suggested that it could be a mole, both Bob and Ann-Maree went 'Yeah, it's a mole!'."
Flashback: Bob:"Originally, when we were in the air, it looked like a platapus, but we thought about it and now we think it's a Mole."
Yet another $5,000 went begging.

Last episode, Alaina cost the team another $5,000 by not jumping solo. Flashback: Alaina:"I don't think I'm going to do the solo. I already feel great about having done the tandem jump and I don't need to do anything more today. I've done so much the past days already..."
Mole cam:"Today was hard for me, because I did the tandem jump and I really really wanted to do the solo. I really had to sit back and let it go."

And even in this episode there was an act of sabotage. Each contestant was given $5,000. Alaina bets $3,500, doesn't win anything and yet runs out of money. $1,500 mysteriously went missing.

No one suspected her till the very end. Only Crystal-Rose knew it was her. And even she voted for Marc from round 2 on till the final, where she voted for Alaina the first time. She started to realize Alaina had done some suspicions things that they all disregarded and she had a gut feeling it was her.
