Episode 5

Thao had to leave the game. Would it get less emotional now?

Day 10
The host asks 4 people for a treasure hunt:

Bob                            Marc                         David                        Pete

They split up in two groups. Marc and David have a laptop with a map and the locations of the treasures on it. They can also see the location of Bob and Pete, who have to find the treasures. They don't know it yet, but the treasures they have to find are pictures and movies of their own childhood!

The other four have to follow them and find out what they are doing, without being seen by them. They too get cameras to provide proof. If they succeed, they win $5,000. They divide themselves into two cars.
Car 1:

Ann-Maree (phone)    Alaina (driver)

Car 2:

Crystal-Rose (phone) Joe (driver)

Car 1 is tailing Bob and Pete and they tell car 2 where to go.
Bob and Pete stop at a shopping center and park their car. Alaina and Ann-Maree have followed them and must remain out of their sight. They both have sunglasses and a bandana on their heads. They have instructed Crystal-Rose and Joe to come to the shopping center. They drive towards the parking lot, but Crystal-Rose sees that they are driving straight towards Bob and Pete. She ducks and tells Joe to back up. The two guys are walking straight towards them now and Joe quickly turns around and drives off. In the chaos all of them have lost track of Pete and Bob, who are still looking for the first treasure. They walk into a music shop. They only thing they know is that the object they have to photograph will be obvious, but they don't know what it is. They are watching a big videoscreen with some children playing on it. Suddenly Bob asks Pete who the little boy reminds him of. "It's you, Pete!". A childhood home video of Pete is playing on the screen in the music store. They take a picture of it and search for the next one.
Ann-Maree and Alaina have lost them, but are afraid to go into the shopping center, because they will risk being seen. They decide to wait for them in the car.
The guys walk into a magazine store. They find some magazine with a baby picture on it and the text 'Who am I?'. They describe it to David on the phone. It's a child with an old man's hat on and a t-shirt which says 'Happiness is being one of the gang'. They photograph it, bringing another $1,000 in the kitty. They have 6 more targets to go. So 6 more opportunities for the others to find out what they are doing. They drive to their next location and Crystal-Rose and Joe are following them. Ann-Maree and Alaina are trying to catch up.
Crystal-Rose tells Ann-Maree on the phone where to go to. Alaina is driving. Ann-Maree:"No wait, don't go there, because they are coming back out again. You won't listen, Alaina! Jesus!" Alaina:"It's allright, it's allright." Ann-Maree:"Here, you run the whole freakin' thing!" she throws the phone on Alaina's lap "Cause you're just racing around and you're too stupid!"
Alaina picks up the phone and talks to Crystal-Rose:"Ann-Maree just chucked the phone at me."
After a while they do get very close to the two guys and follow them. The guys have foudn a big poster-like picture with the text 'Who am I?' so they know they have foudn the next treasure. Pete:"It's a picture of Joe! A big bowl of fat."

Crystal-Rose and Joe are on the other side of the street. Joe talks to Alaina on the phone:"They are pointing at a big photo of a baby and taking pictures of it."
Alaina:"OK they are coming back towards us now, we have to go hide in a shop."
Alaina and Ann-Maree hide in a shop and Pete and Bob come walking past them. Crystal-Rose takes a picture of the baby too, for evidence. Alaina takes a look at it later on and recognizes Joe. Joe doesn't recognize himself and asks how their childhood pictures got put all over town. Alaina:"I think they have to find baby pictures of us and photograph them." She has cracked it. Her answer will be worth $5,000.

Pete and Bob are trying to find the other pictures. The next one is 6 meter by 6 meter billboard at Dreamworld. The fifth photo is a moving target. A large picture on a truck. They only have time for one more photo. At a bus stop there's a large picture of Bob as a kid.
They have 6 pictures and guess correctly who they are of. They win $6,000. The hosts ask them if they have seen the other 4. Bob and Pete both say they haven't.
The others join them and are asked if they figured out what the treasure hunters had to do. Alaina tells the host and is absolutely right. They also have photographic evidence to prove it. They cheer and think they have won the $5,000. But while they were driving, one of them broke the law. A mistake that will cost them $5,000. The host asks Ann-Maree whether she passed the phone to Alaina while she was driving. She admits it. No $5,000 in the kitty.

Marc:"Alaina said that Ann-Maree sort of threw the phone at her after a heated conversation and sort of said 'You deal with the directions and you drive!'."
Ann-Maree:"I'm thinking it could have been deliberate. She's knows it's against the law, she's not a stupid girl, she's highly intelligent."
Alaina:"I know I used it and I know that Ann-Maree threw it at me and stupidly I picked it up. I just didn't think!"

After the challenge, the host tells them seven of them will be going on a wonderfull cruise. One won't. He asks which one of them is a good observer and Alaina volunteers. She is taken away. The others have the time of their lives and can relax completely.
Alaina meanwhile is trained as a detective. Because later that night there will be an Agatha Christie style murder mystery. Every contestant gets an envelope. One of the envelopes has a letter which says that person has to be the killer. That person has to kill one of the others. But no one can know who is the murderer. Alaina can ask them some questions, so it's important they don't know who the murderer is, because only the murderer can lie. The rest HAS to tell the truth.
The murderer has been told that he will find the weapon downstairs in the engine room. They have to figure out a way to let the murder take place without anyone knowing it. Marc comes up with a way of comitting what he thinks is the perfect crime. Downstairs, there are 2 rooms. The victim will go into the right hand room. Then, one by one, the others will go down. If they are not the murderer, they go into the left hand room and wait for a while. However, if they are the murderer, they go into the right hand room, where the victim is and murder them. Ann-Maree will be the victim.
And that's how they do it. They all go downstairs one by one and after a while the deed is done and no one knows who did it.

Marc:"The plan we have is flawless. The only way we can blow the money now is through the Mole. The Mole blowing up in the interrogation."
Bob:"We've set it up and unfortunately, Alaina is going to fail. I don't like it, but it's just a game."

Alaina is taken on board. If she succeeds, she will win an exemption, but there will be no money. If she fails, the group will win $5,000. She can ask 10 questions in total. But first she is going to check out the crime scene. Ann-Maree is covered with (fake) blood.  The knife has been wiped off and the murder has tried to clean his hands in the bathroom. She tries to get fingerprints from the door, but there are too many fingerprints on it. She can't get much from the tap in the bathroom either. She tries to find the place the knife came from. She thinks the weapon came from the engine room, because there are a lot of tools there. She tries to take a finger print from the door handle of the engine room. It's pretty smudged, but she thinks she could outbluff the murderer with it.
She can ask her total of 10 questions now and asks everyone the same question:"It's aboout the door of the engine room. Do you lift it up or push it down to open it?"
Marc:"I honestly don't know."
Crystal-Rose:"I walked past it, but I haven't touched the door. So I can't really tell you. I'm guessing down."
Joe:"I would not know, because I haven't tried it myself."
David:"I don't know."
Pete:"I don't know."
Bob:"I think you lift it, I think."

That's six questions already. She's only allowed to ask four more. She is going to make a deal. "Based on the fingerprints that I have and the question I have asked, I have four suspects and I want to narrow that down. I'm going to do that by making you an offer and you can only accept it if you're the murderer. The offer is the chance to toss a coin for the exemption from elimination. So if you do that, we have a 50% chance of getting the elimination. Remember, you can only accept that offer if you're the murderer."
Marc:"No."
David:"I'm not the murderer."
Pete:"No, I won't accept that."
Bob:"No I won't accept, I want the money."

Her idea to make a deal didn't work out. Or did it?
Alaina shares the results with the others. She tells them how she tooko fingerprints. "One of you knew how the door handle opened and said it lifted up, whic his true, so that raised my suspicion. Then I offered you a chance to toss a coin for exemption from elemination, but you all declined. However, one of you said 'No, I want the money.' which indicated you had the power to make a choice. Only the murderer could have had that choice, because if you weren't the murderer, you weren't able to accept it at all. So I have decided that Bob is the murderer."
The host ask if it's true and Bob says it is.
Marc:"Stupid! Absolutely stupid response!!"
Bob:"I made a slip up alright? You've all lost money before, this is the first time I lost money. I've done my best for everyone in the group, but I made a mistake."
David:"That's alright, Bob."

Day 11
The contestants go bungee jumping from a crane. They get $500 for each person that jumps. The money is doubled if all of them jump. All of the guys are keen to go. David, Pete, Marc, Joe and Bob immediately go. That's $2,500 so far. If they want to double the money, the three girls also have to jump. Ann-Maree and Crystal-Rose are nervous. Alaina decides to go for it. But once on top of the crane, she starts having doubts. After a while she has got her courage back and jumps. $3,000 in the kitty. Crystal-Rose asks Alaina how it was and she says it's very scary.
Ann-Maree is next. She stands on the ledge of the crane, shivering. She backs up and doesn't jump. Crystal-Rose also refuses to jump.

But there's a second part to the challenge. They go to the top of a building, overlooking the crane. On a tv screen they see other people who are about to do a bungee jump. They have to predict whether the person will jump or not.
Crystal-Rose is first. As the camera is zooming in on the person standing on top of the crane, she says:"Yeah, he'll jump."
The host asks to look again and suddenly Crystal-Rose screams:"Oooh my god!!!" It's her brother! She predicts he will jump. And he does! $1,000 into the kitty.
Joe is next and he recognizes his sister. He thinks she will jump. She's standing on the edge and Joe is shoutign at the tv screen:"Come on baby!! Come one!" But she backs out and doesn't jump. They are back to zero.
David has to guess whether his mother will jump or not. He thinks she'll jump, but she doesn't. They are in the red now. Minus $1,000.
Pete says that if it's his sister, she will definitely jump. And it IS his sister and she does jump indeed, without hesitating. Back to zero again.
Alaina's mother is up next and Alaina thinks she will jump. Her mother is too scared and doesn't jump. Minus $1,000 again.
Marc is next and sees his mother:"Oh it's my mother, no. No way. She's scared of heights. There's absolutely.. she won't..." and then he starts crying to see his mother standing at the edge with fear on her face. "She can't handle heights." And he's right. Back to even.
Bob sees his wife and doesn't think she will jump. He too starts to cry because of the sight of having his own wife standing on the crane with a lot of fear. He's correct and they have $1,000 in the kitty.
Ann-Maree is the last one. The host asks how old her father is. 82 it seems. So they chose a friend of hers. She thinks Peter will jump, but he backs out and they lose $1,000. No money is won in the second part of this challenge.
But they can meet their friends and family now.

Joe:"When I saw my sister, I just... I can't explain, I broke down. I'm a very emotional person."
Bob:"Being the tough Bob that you know, watching a tv screen, having his wife stand up on a 37 meter platform. I'm so proud that she got out there and did that."
Marc:"Just seeing my mum moving out to that ledge. Just the look on her face will stay with me. It was grim determination and absolute horror and fear. I'm immensely proud of her."

Suspicions
Bob:"Suspicions... number one: Marc. When he blew up on me on the boat after the murder challenge. I'm the first person he's ever blown up at. And there's Ann-Maree. The woman turns and can divide this group in a snap of her fingers."
Crystal-Rose:"One suspicion that has popped up fairly recently is Bob. He's either at the wrong place at the wrong time or trying to convince everyone that he's the mole when he's not. Or he's The Mole."
Joe:"Alaina is a key suspect for The Mole. There hasn't been a girl as The Mole in the series before. But I've also kept in mind two guys from the beginning: David and Marc."

Suspicious in this episode
The treasure hunters found 6 of the 8 treasures.
Pete and Joe didn't recognize their own baby photo's.
Ann-Maree threw the phone at Alaina, who broke the law using it while driving, which cost $5,000.
Bob gave a silly answer to Alaina's questions, resulting in her finding out he was the murderer and losing $5,000.
Marc was fast to blow out at Bob how stupid he had been. Did he try to lay suspicions on Bob?
Ann-Maree and Crystal-Rose didn't jump.
Joe, David, Alaina and Ann-Maree predicted wrongly whether their friends or family would bungee jump.

Elimination
Alaina won a free pass in the murder game and won't be eliminated this time. But who will be?
