Australian Mole 3
Episode 8

They didn't really like David last episode. And when the host asked them who
they'd like to see get eliminated, he got most votes. To everyone's surprise he
had to leave indeed. Only five people are left. None of them have gotten the red
screen yet...
CC
Bob:"When you look down that computer screen. Grant's sitting on
the desk typing your name and then all of a sudden... your name's there... you
stare straight at that screen. You just can't move... you're locked. When the
green screen appears your heart goes from the top of your throat straight back
in to your stomach."
Crystal-Rose:"When the green screen comes up, it's always a
surprise for me. Because mentally you have to be ablt to be ready to go. You
pack your bags physically and you think 'If I go, I go.'."
Alaina:"It's total relief when the green screen comes up.
It's just relief and confirmation that I'm doing the right thing. That I'm
answering the questionnaire correctly."
Ann-Maree:"It's just the most awful awful feeling when it
turns red for someone else your heart goes... and you think 'Thank God it wasn't
me.' It's just survival."
Day 15
The contestants will fly tandem on a paraglide and drop water
bombs onto a target (a big flag with The Mole logo on the ground). They have to
instruct the person they're paragliding with, where to go to. But the instructor
won't go lower than 30 meters. First they are instructed how to do it. But only
four of the five contestants will be flying. Bob will have an assignment
on his own, but none of the others know it yet. He will be secretly betting on
the outcome. He has to bet for each drop for $1,000. Get it right, they win
$1,000 into the kitty. Get it wrong, they lose $1,000 from the kitty. He won't
be seeing the outcome of how the others did though.
Alaina
is first to go. She gets 2 water bombs. For each bomb that hits the target, they
win $1,000.
Bob thinks Alaina will miss both shots.
Alaina starts off. She thinks that if she hits the target, she wins
$1,000 for the kitty. But if she hits it, Bob's assignment is lost and
they will lose the $1,000 again. She doesn't know it, but the only way she can
win money is to miss both bombs.
She instructs the professional paraglider where to go and drops her first bomb.
It misses the target. Everyone thinks they have missed out on the money, but in
fact, they just won $1,000.
In her second try there's wind from the right and she has to work out which is
the best position to drop the bomb. She drops and and it hits the target!
Everyone thinks they won $1,000 with that drop. But Bob predicted she
would miss the target, costing them $1,000. So the second drop didn't win them
anything. But none of them know it, because Bob can't see the target.
Ann-Maree
is next to be dropped of the mountain. Flying through the air she tells the
instructor that she wrote on her application she's scared of heights, but she
finds it extraordinary.
She will do everything she can to try to land the bombs on the target. She has
no idea that Bob might be betting something else.
Ann-Maree is counting off from 10 to zero, but she accidentally
drops the bomb at 9. It misses. Her second bomb is a miss too. But if Bob
predicted that she would miss both drops, they actually won $2,000. When she
arrives, she tells the others they have to throw the bomb, not just let it drop.
Alaina agrees and tells them that they have to try to fly a bit to the
right of the target and then throw the bomb to the left.

It's Crystal-Rose's turn. She's screaming from joy. They have to try to
catch some wind to reach the minimum height of 30 meters.
She misses the first try. But maybe it won them money if Bob predicted
she would miss it. Her second try misses too. That's the fifth miss out of six
bombs. Only two bombs left and Marchas to throw them.
Marc
is the last one to go. He tells the instructor he wants to try to drop the bomb
from his right hand side. So the instructor brings him to the place he wants to
go to. He throws the bomb but it misses. Marc:"The wind pulled it
back."
To drop the second bomb, they have to lose some height, because they got up
into the air too high. With full speed they're dropping down and Marc
screams of joy.
He throws the second bomb, but it barely misses.
7 misses out of 8 bombs. They think they only won $1,000. But depending on what Bob
predicted, they could have won a lot more. Then again They could have also lost
money. Time to find out...
Bob has to tell the others now what he predicted.
They start with Alaina. He predicted the first drop would be a miss.
That's correct: $1,000 won.
Bob:"The second drop would be another miss." Alaina:"No
that's wrong, I got it." $1,000 lost again, so back to even.
For Crystal-Rose, Bob thought the first drop was a miss. Correct:
$1,000 won. But for the seond drop he thought it would be a hit. But it wasn't,
so back to even again.
Next for Ann-Maree: He predicted for both drops a miss! $2,000 won!
Lastly for Marc he also thought that both drops would be a miss. So
another $2,000 is won!
In total they win $5,000. But they could have done much better. Perhaps The Mole
was at work?
CC
Bob:"No, I think The Mole had a day off. He just sit back and
relaxed. I don't think that person knew my assignment. I kinda got a shock when
I found out all of a sudden that I could win $8,000."
Marc:"Because we failed so poorly today as a group, I think
it's difficult to pick up on whether The Mole was at work."
Crystal-Rose:"Of course The Mole was at work... you know...
The Mole does it in such a way that it is not noticeable. And everyone did
a bad drop except for Alaina today."
Alaina:"It felt great, it was really awesome. I couldn't
believe it. I felt really good about that, because I had a few shockers lately.
I was disappointed that the others didn't drop it good, but it also felt good to
be the only one who did do well."
For the next day, the host asks which two of them have an artistic talent. Crystal-Rose and Marc are chosen.
Day 16
The two contestants with artistic talent have to draw a picture
on the turf of a Football stadium in Brisbane with the white chalk machines
which are used to draw the lines with. They have to draw a platapus of minimum
80 meters by 30 meters. If the others can identify the drawing, they win $5,000.
they get 20 minutes to do so and their time immediately starts after the
isntructions are given.First they have to figure out how the machines work and
how to draw a platapus. They are drawing it with the legs on each side, so that
it's lying flat on its stomach.
The other three contestants will have to go up in a ligth
aircraft. They each get 2 letters of the alphabet and a digital camera. They
have to photograph something that represents the letter they have been given.
For example, if they have a C they can photograph a car, a cow, a caravan,...
The six letters spell a word and if Marc and Crystal-Rose can
figure out what the word is, they win $5,000.
Bob gets the letters B and Y.
Alaina gets T and E.
Ann-Maree gets A and R.
Now they have to take photos representing those letters. For the Y they can take
a picture of a Yacht for example.
Marc and Crystal-Rose have used 4 minutes so far. Crystal-Rose asks Marc if he can rub out a line she drew, because she stuffed up. She will draw the platapus' head and bill, but she started drawing it on the wrong side and it could ruin the entire painting. Marc will do the tail and feet. He draws a stumpy tail because of the size of the bill Crystal-Rose drew. It's not the most perfect platapus tail, but it's a tail anyway.
Bob finds a bridge, which he photographs to represent the
letter B. It's a very long bridge. One photo down, but still 5 more to go.
Ann-Maree sees a resevoir below and asks Bob if it's ok if she
photograps it to represent the letter R. He tells her it's a good start and that
she can still take a picture of something else if she sees somthing better. To
take the picture, Ann-Maree needs to open the door. She's very scared to
do so and the camera almost flies out of her hands. After having opened the
door, she tries to step out to make the picture, but luckily the helicopter
pilot can stop her in time. She takes the picture of the resevoir.
Crystal-Rose and Marc have 9 minutes left to draw and have to do the eyes and feet. Marc suggest to colour the nose all up. They have under 4 minutes left and still quite some work to do. They have some rubbing out to do too, because they made some mistakes.
Alaina takes a picture of a T-junction for the letter T. Bob
asks her what he can take to represent the letter Y. Alaina asks him for
advice on the letter E and he suggest electricity. So she photographs some power
lines.
Bob is looking for the letter Y. He sees two roads coming together in one
road, which looks like the shape of a Y. He photographs it.
Ann-Maree only has to take one picture. For the letter A. Bob
suggests to take a picture of an airplane.
Time's up for the artists. It does look like platapus, but will it be clear from up in the air. They can get to see it now, by standing up on the roof. Marc says he screwed up the backside and Crystal-Rose tells him the feet don't really look okay. But she does think it would be recognizeable.
The host tells the three in the airplanes to look down on the
football field as they fly past it. Marc and Crystal-Rose are
yelling it's a platapus and making movements. They're concerned. It does look
like an animal, but with a short stumpy tail and a bill that looks like a nose
they might not recognize it. The three contestants of the planes have to agree
on what it is. The photographs are all taken. When they arrive, the host asks if
they saw anything. Bob:"Yeah, a rather large drawing." Alaina:"Just
a picture or a drawing on the ground." The host asks them what the
picture was of.
Ann-Maree:"I think it's a platapus." Alaina:"I
thought it might have been a mole." Bob:"Could be a
mole. A platapus has a beaver-like tail and I didn't see a beaver-like
tail."
They can discuss it in the car to the football field.
Crystal-Rose and Marc first have to recognize the letters and find
the word. The first picture is E for Electricity lines. Crystal-Rose sees
that the lines form a letter H, so they go for H. Next they see the R for
Resevoir picture. But the water around it, forms a C according to Crystal-Rose
or maybe even an E, which Marcs doubts.
Next is the T for T-junction. But the roads split up a bit further on and they
think they recognize a U.
They immediately see the Y in the Y shaped road on the dirt track, which Bob
photographed.
Next they see the bridge picture for the B. But only the bridge is on it, no
land, which connects it, so Crystal-Rose thinks it's an I. Marc:"Or
it could be a B for bridge."
The last picture is one Ann-Maree took: an airport to represent the
A. They have no idea. The six letters E, R, B, A, T and Y form a word they
should all be used to by now.
The three others arrive and the host asks them what Marc
and Crystal-Rose came up with. They say they thought the photos would
depicture the shape of the letters and not that for example a bridge would stand
for B. The host asks what word they came up with and Marc jokes:"Chirpy?"
The others laugh. They explain what the pictures mean. The three did discover
the word: BETRAY. But they lost out on $5,000 because the others didn't find it.
But they can still win $5,000 if they know what the drawing is supposed to be
of. Bob:"Originally, when we were in the air, it looked like a
platapus, but we thought about it and now we think it's a Mole." Marc
is standing behind them and shakes his head already. The host ask the two to
tell them what it was. Crystal-Rose:"It was a platapus..."
The three are disappointed. Bob:"Then where's the tail?"
Crystal-Rose:"Right there." Alaina:"Oh,
you couldn't really see that up in the air."
Again they miss out on $5,000.
CC
Bob:"The Mole was definitely at work today. They drew no tail on
the platapus, just a bobbly little thing on the end! The nose was fairly good,
but everybody knows a platapus has a tail like a beaver, not a knob."
Marc:"I think Crystal sort of screwed up the most important
part, which was the bill and so we had to make up with that in the end."
Alaina:"I think Marc was doing the tail. That tail was hardly
visible from the air and it was too small."
But the other assignment went wrong too.
CC
Bob:"Marc convinced Crystal that the pictures were all photos of
shapes of letters. Not of objects. It was beautifully done. Absolutely
beautifully done."
Marc:"Crystal led me totally astray. She pushed the idea that
the pictures were depictures of the letters themselves, not pictures of objects
representing the letters."
Suspicions
Marc:"I've eliminated Bob from my thinking, so I'm going to continue
to focus on Crystal-Rose, because I think that she's a very real contender for
being the Mole."
Crystal-Rose:"My main suspicion is Marc. And then I've got
something about Alaina right now. You wouldn't suspect her, like people wouldn't
suspect me. Too young, but she's one clever girl."
Alaina:"Crystal-Rose is definitely popping into my head after
today, because of the photographs and she had a big hand in drawing that
platapus as well. So I'm starting to suspect that she's The Mole."
Bob:"Alaina, I think she's trying her best, but she's just a
total screw up. And Crystal-Rose is in the same boat. It's a win for Marc as
being The Mole."
Ann-Maree:"My suspicion is on Bob because all of a sudden
he's just on with being a truck driver and 'I don't know much'. He just might be
the black horse in there."
Suspicious in this episode
No one, but Alaina hit the target.
Bob thought Crystal-Rose would make one hit, but that Marc
would miss both.
Marc couldn't draw a perfect tail, because Crystal-Rose stuffed up
with the bill.
Alaina was the first one to suggest the drawing could be of a mole.
Alaina took a picture of power lines to represent E for electricity.
Ann-Maree took a far away picture of a reservoir to represent the R.
Before they start elimination, the host ask them how confident
they are:
Bob:"As confident as anyone can be."
Crystal-Rose:"Everyone works himself up preparing to go and
also preparing to stay, so it's fifty-fifty."
Ann-Maree:"It's just the worst day. You don't want to go and
you hope it's not you. Simple as that."
Alaina:"It's hard, it's definitely hard. The closer you get
to it, the more chance it's you who will be gone, so..."
Marc:"I'm not particularly confident tonight. It's just a
feeling."
Elimination
Who will have to leave?
