Australian Mole 3
Episode 9

It was Ann-Maree who failed at correctly identifying The Mole last time. She regretted not having played the game harder.
Four people remain. Soon, one of them will walk away with a lot of money.

CC
Marc
:"It's a shocking thought that in a few days' time, I could I could be battling for about $100,000."
Alaina:"I'm so close to being in the last three and so close to winning. Every now and then it dawns on me and I start to realise it. I'm proud I got this far and am really really happy I'm still here."
Crystal-Rose:"I am so happy that I'm here and I have a lot more confidence in myself in the sense that I have the ability that I can make it."
Bob:"Now it's game on full on, people. Bob Young is here to win it now. At full costs. And I'm gonna find out who you are. And when I do, I'm gonna take that money and bring it home!"

Day 17
It's 2:00 am and the host wakes Bob for a surprise. He will have to convince the other three NOT to do a parachute jump.
Host:"Tomorrow morning you will all be asked to do a parachute jump. But if you can persuade everyone not to jump, you'll add $10,000 to the kitty and you'll get an exemption. A free ticket to the final."

None of the others know that Bob has gotten this offer. They all think that the more people who jump, the more money they'll win. The next morning, the host informs them all that they can earn $5,000 for each person that does a SOLO parachute jump. But first off, they have to do a tandem jump to be able to do the solo jump. He asks who wants to do that. Everyone but Bob raise their hands. "I'd rather do the solo." Host:"But you have to do the tandem in order to do the solo." The others encourage him a little, but Bob doesn't go.
The tandem jump is for practice and Marc, Alaina and Crystal-Rose seem to be keen to do it. But only the solo jump will win them money. They are taken up to a height of 4,000 meters. Marc and Alaina are nervous and keen, but Crystal-Rose may be having second thoughts.
All the while, Bob hopes they won't continue with it, because then they'll win $15,000 and he'll get an exemption.

Marc is closest to the door and has to go first...

CC
Marc
:"As that door opens... feeling the wind rushing in, is the most terrifying thing. As soon as I was doing the countdown, my heart rate was really picking up."

Marc counts to three and jumps.

Alaina is next to go.

CC
Alaina
:"Once I was standing on that edge, I knew I was gone. It's just amazing. It's hard to describe.. it's a great feeling. So much fun."

Now it's Crystal-Rose's turn. The man she's doing the tandem jump with, tries to put her at ease. But she says she can't do it.

CC
Crystal-Rose
:"To be quite honest, I don't know where this fear came from. I guess I'm a control freak and a perfectionist and that's why I'm so angry at myself because people's assumptions that I wouldn't do it, were right."

Because she refuses the tandem jump, she can't do the solo jump either, which costs the team $5,000. Now only Alaina and Marc will be able to do the solo jump. Bob's job is easier now, because he only has to convince 2 people not to go.
While in the air, the two jumpers get taught how to steer the parachute and how to land.
Marc:"It's incredible. It all happens so quickly. Since that parachute opens, the world just stops!"
Crystal-Rose arrives the slow way: by plane. The two who have jumped, try to convince her that she missed out and that the part in the plane is most scary, but then it isn't anymore. The host asks her if she still wants to go. Alaina tries to convince her, but Crystal-Rose shakes her head.

Marc and Alaina get some intensive training. They must learn how to freefall on their own and what to do when their parachute doesn't open properly. Then they must learn how to steer the parachute and how to land. After that they should be ready to go. The others ask of they are ready. Marc is, but Alaina is doubting:"I don't think I'm going to do the solo. I already feel great about having done the tandem jump and I don't need to do anything more today. I've done so much the past days already..."
Bob:"It's up to you. It's your choice. If you want to go, you go. If you don't, you don't."
Marc:"Someone's got to do it. I was hoping I'd have a few buddies up there, though."
Alaina:"Sorry Marc, I don't want to go on my own."
Marc says goodbye and goes to the plane. Bob does nothing to stop him and to win $15,000 and an exemption. Marc goes up into the air. If he jumps, they win $5,000... but if he doesn't jump, they'll win $15,000. But he doesn't know that he will make more money if he stays in the plane.

CC
Marc
:"Flying up seemed to take forever. It's probably the most alone I've felt since I've been on the show. Being without the others. The plane was quite empty and I felt like I was abandonned. The higher I got up in the plane, the more nervous I was, because I started to think about that jump more. The only moment of terror for me, is moving to the door and standing on the edge, ready to jump. As soon as I4m ready, it's just pure exhilaration."

Two parachutist hold him as he leaves the plane, to make sure that he doesn't spin out of control. He jumps and is dropping at 150 km/h

CC
Marc
:"It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. It's very hard to describe. It was very intense and peaceful at the same time. I enjoyed. I had fears of having some kind of a malfunction."

Marc pulls open the parachute and the other two let him go. He's now completely on his own and has to steer himself to the landing site.

CC
Marc
:"The parachuting was complete and utter independence and self-dependence. It taught me that I can only ever rely on myself. And can't ever be taken away from me."

He lands and the others applaud. Then Bob has to tell them what his assignment was. The others are glad that he doesn't have the free pass.

That evening there's a treat for the four contestants. Dinner on their own personal island. But as they'll soon find out, nothing is what it seems. The host tells them they have arrived at Temptation Island, but that they'll find out later on why. First they have dinner. During dinner:
Host:"Over the time you got to know each other. You've all grown close, I think we can trust each other now. Could The Mole put their hand up please?"
No one does. Crystal-Rose:"At some days, people don't want to admit that there is a Mole."
Alaina:"We don't really want to think about it, because we're just enjoying ourselves."
Marc:"It's still in the back of your mind that there's a lot of money at stake and someone's screwing around with us."
Crystal-Rose:"And it's scary to think that it's one of us four."
Host:"One of you four is betraying you and has already cost you a lot of money. Is it you?"
Marc:"Is it me? No."
Host:"Alaina? Are you The Mole?"
Alaina:"No."
Crystal-Rose:"I don't think I could ever be The Mole."
Bob:"No. I'm not The Mole."
Host:"Let's take a look at it, shall we? In the parachuting today..." Flashback: Crystal-Rose:"No, I'm not going. I don't want to go! 100 % sure!" "Crystal-Rose, you didn't jump."
Crystal-Rose:"I didn't jump, no."
Host:"That's a pretty mole-ish activity. It cost the group $5,000."
She laughs and both her and Alaina go:"Wooooooh!"
Host:"Bob, didn't jump and didn't convince the others hard to try to make them not to jump."
Marc:"He only said 'You might regret it.' That was the exemption comment."
Host:"So, Alaina? You did the tandem, but didn't jump. It cost the group $5,000. The same as Crystal-Rose."
Alaina:"Yes indeed I did, I cost the group a lot of money by not jumping."
Host:"Now if I were The Mole and I would be perceived not to continue. I might jump." Flashback: Marc jumps solo. "The extra $10,000 we could win, would be lost , the exemption would be gone and I could create a smoke screen."
Marc:"And add $5,000 to the kitty!"
Host:"Whilst losing $10,000. Nothing too bad for The Mole. Suspicion gets cast on everyone. Do you feel now that a s a group it would betray one another?"
Crystal-Rose:"Not 100 % no."
Alaina:"As much as you have to work together as a team, everyone's here for themselves."
Host:"With that in mind, I would like to have a little chat with each of you in private."
This is Temptation Island. They are each tempted to buy an exemption to the final round, using money out of the kitty.

Bob is first. The host tells him that the last elimination is coming up and that it's an important one. He asks him how much money he is willing to give him for an exemption to the final round. Bob bids $15,000 out of the group's prize kitty.
They don't know of each other how much they have bid. The highest bidder will get the free pass. Bob arrives with the othrs and tells them it's Marc's turn. Marc leaves them and Bob tells the girls what happened. Bob:"They ask you how much you want to pay for an exemption." Crystal-Rose:"And what did you say?" Bob:"Nothing, I turned it down."
He has lied to them. But before the night is over, there will be a lot more lies.
Marc is also asked what it's worth to him. He asks how much the kitty is up to. It's $84,000. Marc bids $24,000 to round it down to $60,000. He has outbid Bob. He has betrayed everyone else, and lies about it too. He tells the others he made a small bid. Bob tells him he bid nothing.
It's Alaina's turn. But she's feeling quite confident and doesn't want to take any money from the kitty. She knows it's a risk, but is happy with that. Her attempt to save some money for the kitty is in vain, because Marc and Bob have both made bids, so the prize kitty will be reduced anyway.
Crystal-Rose is last and she's prepared to give $5,500 out of the kitty for a free pass. Each of them hope they are the highest bidder and that they'll be given the fre pass.

CC
Crystal-Rose
:"I came up with $5,500 because I think that people will just bid $5,000. If someone has actually placed a bid higher than $10,000 I think they're absolutely stupid."
Bob:"I'm guilty as hell for bidding $15,000. But if I win it's only $15,000 of my money."
Marc:"Bob will bid highly to stay in the game, probably even more than my $24,000 out of the kitty."
Alaina:"If I win this... and one of those guys has bid X amount of money to get to the next round and I end up winning, how am I gonna handle it and how much will they have taken from me. It won't be easy finding that out."

They've all betrayed each other and lied to each other. They won't find out who gets the exemption and for how much money the next evening...

Day 18
They have to split in 2 groups of 2 and drive around an island on a jet-skitogether. The passenger gets a mpa and they have to draw a mpa of the island. They have one hour. At the end they have to compare the maps and choose which one is more acurate and hand that one over to the host. If they're at least 50 % correct, they win $5,000.
Crystal-Rose (driver) and Alaina (passenger) will be on one jet-ski, Bob (driver) and Marc (passenger) on the other. The island they're mapping is 6 km by 3 km. The girls go one way and the guys go round the island the other way. It's difficult to draw the island on a map when it's a race against time and you have nothing to measure the distance. They can easily forget about the challenge and enjoy sightseeing on the jet-ski. Alaina and Crystal-Rose decide to change places because Alaina thinks she's not a good drawer.
They're halfway through the assignment and meet each other again on the other side of the island, so they are halfway too. Marc and Bob are being more methodical in the map drawing than Alaina and Crystal. For the girls it's too much fun to worry about winning $5,000.

CC
Crystal-Rose
:"The jet-ski task was extremely fun for Alaina and I. We just had a ball and that was our problem, we had so much fun and were enjoying ourselves way too much. We didn't actually concentrate on the task at hand."
Alaina:"We figured out early on in the task that our map wasn't going to be the one that would be used. So we just played around and had fun. We told each other to just enjoy it and have fun and hope that Marc's map would be better."

At the end of the hour, they have 2 maps to choose from. Or at least... they should have. The girls only drew half of the island. So the guys' map is taken. The map is 51.5 % acurate. They won the $5,000, but no thanks to the girls.

CC
Crystal-Rose
:"We were just pushing each other to the extreme. Turning aroudn and having fun. I wouldn't be surprised if Alaina was The Mole and leading me astray."
Alaina:"I'm still thinking suspiciously of Crystal. I know she's quite good at drawing and when she attempted to draw the map, she got the proportion of the island halfway already even though we only were a couple of km away. So I'm suspicious about that."
Marc:"I think The Mole was very clever in manipulating the other one into making her believe that their map wouldn't be great anyway and they'd better have some fun instead."

Suspicions
Crystal-Rose
:"Anyone here could easily be The Mole. I'm sort of torn in half. Alaina is very suspicious right now. She's extremely intelligent and can work a lot of people. My other suspect is still Marc. He's done a few little things that make me suspicious."
Alaina:"I'm torn between Crystal and Marc, but I'm leaning more towards Marc. Everyone suspects Marc, which is a worry. I'm just really hoping that they all suspect me, because if  I could get to a point in the final where the other contestant suspects me then that's brilliant."
Crystal-Rose:"I suspect Crystal-Rose as The Mole because I think that she's a lot more mature than her years would lead on. My other main suspect is still Bob. Bob seems an obvious choice to me, but the simplest explanation is probably the right one. Maybe Bob is The Mole."
Bob
:"It has come down to Crystal-Rose and Marc. It's one of those two. To switch now is... If I switch to Crystal-Rose and I get eliminated... what a fool I'm gonna look like. If I switch to Marc, I still can be eliminated."

Suspicious in this episode
Bob
didn't do much to convince the others not to jump, which would earn them more money.
Crystal-Rose refused to jump.
Alaina did the tandem jump, but didn't do the solo jump, which could earn them money.
Marc jumped and won $5,000. If he didn't jump, they would have gotten $15,000.
Crsytal-Rose bid $5,500, Bob $15,000 and Marc $24,000 out of the kitty for the free pass.
Crsytal-Rose and Alaina just had fun in the jet-ski challenge and didn't focus on winning.
Bob and Marc's drawing of the map was only 51.5 % acurate. A close call.

None of them know who has the exemption yet, but their biggest fear is how much money they bid on it.

CC
Alaina
:"I have great concerns that they have bid a lot for this. I think that Bob and Marc have probably bid through the roof. If they bid $10,000 or more that's just over the top."
Crystal-Rose:"I'm really hoping no one bid over $10,000 and if anyone bids over $15,000 I'll get really angry at them because it's a waste of money."
Bob:"I believe that $15,000 wasn't a great deal of money, but if you go and spend $20,000 or $30,000 for an exemption... you're nuts!"
Marc:"My bid of $24,000 was quite extravagant, but it wouldn't surprise me if someone has bid more than that. I think Crystal-Rose will get that exemption."

At the moment, the kitty stands at $89,000. Marc has to tell the others that he bid $24,000. The others can't believe it and say it's way too much. Marc:"I contributed to add the $10,000 we have won this episode, so in my eyes, it's only $14,000." So now Marc has an exemption and the kitty is down to $65,000. However, the host suggests if Marc gives up the money, they get the $24,000 back plus they'll add another $24,000, which would bring the kitty to $113,000.
Marc
:"I wasn't very confident with the questionnaire tonight, I have to say. But I'll do it."

Elimination
Everyone is up for elimination now that Marc decided to give up his exemption. Who will be eliminated.
