| Emerson Drive will join Shania on the Spring leg of her worldwide Up! Tour. Here are some comments from the group about Shania: "We had to juggle some shows last year when we got picked to open for Shania (Twain), so we're going back to those ones before we start with her again." There's a strange mix of awe and acceptance in Wallace's voice as he talks about touring with Twain. It's not just her, it's the people who drop by. "We were in the catering room for one show, all sitting at one table. At the next table is Shania, Mutt (Lange, her husband), a couple of guys from Def Leppard and Bo Derek. I'm sitting there eating, trying not to stare and wondering how I got here. ~Becca~ |

| Friday 23rd January 2004 - Paraire 23 Hanuere 2004 The Toronto Sun has published a detailed article regarding Shania's tour clothes. The article is based upon an interview with Shania Twain's wardrobe manager: "She goes shopping with Shania Twain, helps her through quick changes backstage, adds crystals to her stage wear, presses her clothes and alters baggy T-shirts so they hug the diva's tiny wisp of a waist. Ariane Martin is wardrobing manager to Canada's most celebrated female singer. It's a dream job for the 20-year-old Toronto native, who overnight went from a struggling fashion designer and part-time waitress to styling a star. In September, Martin joined the crew of Twain's Up! tour, and since then her feet haven't touched the ground." | Sunday 25th January 2004 - Ratapu 25 Hanuere 2004 Riis just got word that she will be writing the script for a new television movie about the early years of country superstar, Shania Twain. She has already read the Twain biography twice, and is looking forward to bringing the story to life on the screen. "I know that world," says Riis. Like Twain, she grew up in 'The Bush,' living simply and experiencing the people and the lifestyle of a northern community. Add to that, she is almost the same age as Twain's mother and remembers the music and the fashions of that day. "The country music Shania Twain was playing in the bars when she was eight -- I know that scene," says Riis, one of Canada's busiest screenwriters, at home in Saskatoon where she has lived since 1987. The Twain biopic, co-produced by CBC and Barna-Alper Productions, won't reach the airwaves before fall. ~Becca~ |

| Monday 26th January 2004 - Mane 26 Hanuere 2004 The CMA has an interesting new report out on country music in 2003, which includes the news that country CD sales for last year were down by almost 10 percent. That part of the news was splashed all over the news wires this week and was picked up by newspapers and broadcast outlets across the country. And, while it is legitimate news, it's not the total story, by any means. Sales are down but -- citing Les McCann's great recording -- "Compared to what?" Total country album sales for 2003 dropped by 9.8 percent, from 76.9 million albums in 2002 to 69.3 million last year. The Top 10 country albums for 2003 provided mostly lackluster sales. Toby Keith's Shock'n Y'all hit 2.3 million copies sold, and Alan Jackson's Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 was at 2.1 million. The Dixie Chicks' Home was right at 2 million. Shania Twain's Up! hit at 1.8 million. Keith's 2002 album Unleashed continued to sell well, clocking sales of 1.7 million in 2003. Kenny Chesney's No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems was at 1.1 million, and Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors was just below that at 1 million, followed by Rascal Flatts' Melt, with sales of 950,000. Johnny Cash's American IV: The Man Comes Around and Lonestar's Greatest Hits both sold well over 800,000 copies. So. What does that tell us? First, that some of country's superstars were MIA on the new CD front last year. As a result, seven of these 10 best-selling country albums of 2003 were actually released in 2002. (Only Keith's Shock'n Y'all, Jackson's Greatest and Lonestar's Greatest were 2003 releases.). Shock'n Y'all may well be the biggest news story. It has sold its 2.3 million copies since its release just last November, meaning that Keith has tapped into a very live vein with music buyers. ~Becca~ |
