| Friday 6th February 2004 - Paraire 6 Pepuere 2004 The status of Shania Twain's UP! sales is a bit confusing. Normally, every disc in an album release is counted. If it's one disc that sells a million, then the count certified is 1 million. If there are 5 discs in a single collection of works and the collection sells a million, then that album collection will be certified for 5 million records sold. In Shania's case, when Up!, first came out, she decided to count the two-disc set as just one unit sold, going against what the RIAA certifying company normally does. So, when 5 million, two-disc units were sold, people have referred to it as 5 times platinum. But, a month or so back, Shania and her label apparently decided they should be consistent with the normal practice of crediting all discs in a collection of songs on one album, and have now embraced the larger 10 million albums sold figure to be able to add another "Diamond" (10 million-selling) album to Shania's amazing career. ~Becca~ |

| Saturday 14th February 2004 - Hatarei 14 Pepuere 2004 The CBC is working on a movie about Shania Twain. Well some more details are now available. The movie will focus on Shania's life in Timmins, and end at the point she goes to Nashville. Robin Eggar, who wrote the book that the movies is based on was a bit concern that his work would have been chopped up. However after meeting with the screenwriters he is happy with the direction of the production. So what was the inspiration behind this movie? "They came onto her story in an interesting way," says the lanky Eggar, stretching out his denim-clad legs in his publisher's downtown office last week. "They had wanted to do something about child poverty in Canada, but they insisted there had to be an uplifting message at the end." A jagged grin splits his face. "So they asked themselves, `Who do we know in this country who grew up really poor and then made it really big?' and the answer, of course, was Shania Twain." The more Eggar talked to Alper, the more he liked his ideas. "He was coming at it from a different angle, not another shoddy showbiz knock-off, but a story about the real woman." Newcastle Chronicle & Journal: Shania Certainly Will Impress By Sam Wonfor, The Journal Her songs are a must on any hen night, wedding or birthday party dance floor - and later this week, Shania Twain's North-East fans will get their first chance to see the chart-topping singer live. The Arena will play host to the Canadian-born country singer on Valentine's Day for the first of two in the round concerts at the venue. During the past five years Shania has enjoyed a host of international hits including Man! I Feel Like A Woman and That Don't Impress Me Much. All her favourite releases will doubtless be included on the set list for Saturday's sell-out concert. But don't worry if you missed out on tickets for the concert because there are still seats available for her return to Tyneside on March 11. Shania, who gave birth to her first baby in 2001, kicked off her first world tour in more than three years last September in Hamilton, Ontario, to rave reviews. Such was demand following the announcement of her Valentine's Day date with Tyneside - the singer quickly announced a second date which is also expected to pull in a full house. Tickets for the March concert available on (0870) 707-8000 or online at http://www.metroradioarena.co.uk Shania has just confirmed that she will be presenting an award (the first award of the evening) at The Brit Awards on Tuesday, February 17th. | Tuesday 17th February 2004 - Turei 17 Pepuere 2004 Feb 16 2004 By Neil Mckay, The Journal Such is the popularity of US singer Shania Twain that another show has already been booked at Newcastle's MetroRadio Arena next month. And on Saturday night it was easy to see why; the lady has class. Songs such as Honey I'm Home, Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You) and That Don't Impress Me Much are now part of the national subconscious. Even people who don't know the singer must be aware of the songs from shopping centre tapes, car radios, pub juke boxes and the like. Backed by a slick band, she raced through a dynamic repertoire beginning with Man! I feel like a Woman! Shania used to be a country singer, but Saturday's performance was pure rock and roll. She signed autographs while in full voice and hauled a girl up from the audience for one number, where they performed an impressive duet. She even wore a Newcastle United top for the last few songs, to the approval of the audience. We left hoping to secure tickets for the next Arena show in March, so uplifting had the expoerience been. http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/0300entertainment/0500music/page.cfm?objectid=13955275&method=full&siteid=50081 ~Becca~ |
