THE WEDDING DAYChapter 2The wedding day had finally arrived. It is January 28, 1993, a foggy morning that I will never forget. I did not sleep at all that previous night. I kept on thinking about my next step in life. I am sure no one else slept either. Emelyn was over her cousin's house the night before the wedding.By 9:30AM, I was in front of the altar with my Best Man and my sister, who was the main of honor waiting for the ceremony to start. The music started right at 10:00AM. I saw walking my beautiful bride in her white wedding dress toward me; I got goose bumps because of the thought of me getting married. During the ceremony, there was a chair was places for Emelyn at the Altar so she could sit with me at my level. It was so emotional that I could feel the people behind me feeling deeply touched by us. How could I tell? They were filming the wedding on video. I was touched too because we also had a man name who brought his equipment to sing a couple of love songs for us. He sang three songs and they were "Endless Love." - "Hawaiian Wedding Song." - "My love will see you though." They did not fill the church pews with people. There were only twenty attendees. They were all involved in the wedding. At one point during the ceremony, everyone was laughing at me, including Emelyn and me. Some were saying. "Relax Joe." -- "Are you changing your mind?" How about this one someone else said, "You can't back down now." Since I have uncontrolled motions, something funny happened when we were putting the rings on. Ruben had to help me put the ring on Emelyn's finger. Nevertheless, when it was Emelyn's turn to put the ring on my finger, I could not open my hand. Ruben had to extend my fingers, especially the ring finger, because the muscles in my hand got so tight. I could not relax them.
Then on February 6, the week after our wedding, we had a reception. A friend of the family was our emcee. She introduced all of us as we all came in pairs. Finally, when the emee announced, "And now the beautiful couple that you have been waiting for . . . Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Navera!" Everybody stood up as we came in and went to the front.
