The Andrasta History:

The Andrastas originate in the city of Constantinople, in the year 330 AD.   It was a time of great upheaval within the Empire, as Emperor Constantine worked to legitimize the fast growing Christian religion.  There were a number of parties working against the new movement, viewing it as the populist feel-good mythology of the working class.  Among them was Belasarius, a patrician land-owner with little respect for this new upstart phenomena.  Raised as a loyal disciple of Hecate, ancient goddess of the darkness, he viewed the Christians, and the Emperor with suspicion  And he was not alone - at the time of the building of the new city of Constantinople he had close to 1000 followers - mostly warriors under Constantine who saw their Emperor's loyalty to the new religion as weakness.

It was one night following a service at the temple of Hecate that the Andratsa Clan was born.  Balasarius was draining the blood of a sacrifice - a simple unblemished lamb - when he accidentally caught his own hand on the sharp knife, mixing his blood with that of the unfortunate animal.  When he threw the captured blood in sacrifice against the stone of Hecate, a burst of energy flew out, knocking the mortal backwards.  As he gazed in terror, the embodiment of Hecate herself appeared - a sight that would kill most men.  Instead, Belasarius was embraced by the dark goddess, her thirst for his blood stirred by its inclusion in the sacrifice.  It was the first embrace of the Andrasta, the dark warriors of Hecate who spread to legion numbers as Belasarius turned his now demigod and demon alike attentions to his followers.  Their warrior reputation sealed due to their first children, they quickly ascended to a position of power within the Byzantium court.  King Sorvino's own sire was the direct descendent of Belasarius, indeed the first woman embraced of their Clan - Livia - first Queen of the Andrasta.

Sorvino's death during the Clan war led to a fracturing of the Andrasta Clan, with his sons going out to father their own Clans.  His eldest son, Bishop, became focused on destroying Canio Di Nerezza and his Clan as payment for the destruction of his father.  Following that failure, Dimitri stepped in to lead his Clan. Following the exodus of the Clan to New York, Dimitri stepped down and handed the crown to Sebastian - a shocking move that has left much of the Kindred world gasping.

The Andrasta have learned much during their two centuries of existence - mostly that in order to survive, they must adapt.  But in the adaptation, they must never forget that they are the children of Hecate herself - and that their power is undeniable.
