A Lesson Plan and Web Search on Industrialists, Inventors, Reformers, Thinker, Painters and Writers during the Industrial Revolution.

This Internet Search activity was designed and used in my World History course in relation to the people involved and "inspired" by the Industrial Revolution.   The activity is designed as an in class assignment.   Our class utilized the school's wireless Internet laptops to complete the assignment.  Although  the assignement is for a World History course it could easily be adapted for an American History course that dealt specifically with America and the Industrial Revolution.

The objective of this assignment is for students to identify major contributions of industrialists, inventors, reformers, thinkers, painters, and writers during the Industrial Revolution and their influence on the world, therefore meeting the NC World History Cirriculum (5.3 & 5.4).

By incorporating the Internet into this project and the use of the wireless laptops, many Technology Competancies can be met.  The teacher, as well as the  students, must identify and locate technology resources and evalutate them for accuracy and suitability (II.C).  Because the laptops were brought into the class and therefore used there, as the teacher,  I had to manage student learning activites in a technology-enhanced enviroment (III.D).  Last, in this situation it was important to model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology resources as students looked to me for an example as how to conduct thir searches and how to use the Internet (VI.A).
