This is a Comparative Analysis of the textbooks, Global Insights: People and Cultures (Glencoe/McGraw-Hill) and World Cultures: A Global Mosaic (Prentice Hall).

The analysis was a product of an assignment in Dr. M. Hale's 3100 course.  This was completed individually during my Spring 2002 semester.

The purpose of this analysis is provide insight and interpretation skills for using required text in the classroom.  I examined the chapters on the Middle East to provide some congruency between the texts.  Both of these textbooks are appropriate texts for a World Cultures or World Civilizations classroom and have been adopted for use by North Carolina Public Schools (must have Adobe Acrobat Reader, texts are located on page 5 & 6).

By analyzing and assessing the textbooks I was able to meet a principle set forth by the INTASC standards (#8).  This analysis reflects that I understand and can use formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social and physical development of the learner in the context of the role of the textbook in the classroom.
This analysis also helped me meet an ISTE technology competency (IVB).  I was able to use technology resources and the textbooks themselves to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning
