The Graphic Designer
|
|
|
As some graphic design
processes are quite complicated and in need of specific
knowledge and experience in developing a successful
campaign it seem natural that a small studio practices
are now joining forces and collaborating with linguists,
writers, performers, artists, craftsmen, technicians,
scientists and politicians in delivering the final
creative work. |

New definitions for Design and the
changing nature of the profession is evident within
creative industry and here I would like to mention
just some published in Design Week Volume 20/ 23
June 2005, page 10-11 |

The comments below were made following
debate on the election of Hillary Cottam as the
Design Museum Designer of the Year 2005 where TEAMWORK
is an important factor within all creative activity. |
|
Quote |
'Teamwork is the key
- as recognized by design museum designer of the
year nominations for Penguin Books this year. Rockstar
Games in 2003, but so too are 'NON-DESIGNERS' whose
strength is management, thinking, writing or simply
talent spotting.' |

'Design at it's heart
is about innovation and problem-solving - the process
behind both the beautiful 'kettle' that works and
a 'prison system' that can reduce re-offending.'

'Innovation depends
upon this new combination of knowledge, collaboration
and teamwork. The design process stimulates this
information flow and provides the tools for creative
dialogue.' |

Quote |
'Within the DNA
of design is changed, flexibility and evolution
by creating new ideas and new objects in a constantly
changing world. Design also constantly redefines
itself. It needs this movement to be itself.' |

Quote |
'The
design profession began by applying Darwinian principles
to industrial products. Maybe it is time to apply
Darwinian principles to designers.' |

Quote |
'Given
the scale and complexity of the social economic
and technological challenges we face, perhaps what
is really needed is a new form of design manager
or animateur - someone who understands how to orchestrate
the move from designing for - to - instead - designing
with people to make the world a better place.' |

Quote |
'Designers
don't - or - at least they shouldn't - design things
for their own sake - just to please themselves.
A design should always fulfill a purpose, however,
that purpose can be pretty broadly defined.' |
