People
can define art depending
on their educational knowledge
or base it on their personal
interest in fine art, art
history, theories, philosophy
or hobbies; others will
define art based on what
they see in Art Galleries
and Museums. |

Artists in the past expressed
their views by bringing to public attention
problems or issues that are in need
of investigation and changes. Artists
use different kinds of media, which
usually is associated with the artist's
personal preferences, knowledge, ability
or practical experience. An artist's
world-view is important to be able to
create 'NEW'
or 'UP TO DATE'
and 'TO MAKE CHANGES'
in life. |

'There really
is no such thing as art. There
are only artists. once these were
men who took coloured earth and
roughed out the forms of a bison
on the wall of a cave; today some
buy their paints, and design posters
for the hoardings; they did and
do many other things. there is
no harm in calling all these activities
art as long as we keep in mind
that such a word may mean very
different things in different
times and places, and as long
as we realise that art with a
capital a has no existence' |

Historically
the word ART
in Greek (tekhne)
and Latin (ars) does not apply to Fine
Arts in the modern sense, but i has
been adapted as interpretation of all
kinds of human activities. |
Art was
characterized by Aristotle as activity
based on knowledge and governed by rules.
An individual could become a painter
or a sculptor, or a shoemaker, by learning
the rules of the trade. This period
of time, is known as Ancient Times,
specifically applying to the ages before
the fall of the Western Roman Empire
in 476 A.D. |
At the
end of the Ancient period a system so-called
'liberal arts'
was listed by Martianus
Capella outlining seven main
subjects as: Grammar, Rhetoric, Dialectic,
Arithmetic, Geometry, Astronomy, and
Music, which could be studied during
the Middle Ages period. |
During
12th and 13th century, the liberal arts
had become an inadequate system for
classifying knowledge, and with the
rise of universities and education other
subject were established. The visual
arts were confined to the artisan's
guilds, sculptors joined the goldsmith's
guild, while architects were associated
with masons and carpenters. |
The period
of the Renaissance (14th and 16th centuries)
meaning "rebirth", brought
many important changes to the artist
and their art. The painter, sculptors,
and architect try to free themselves
from craftsmen and artists like Michelangelo
began to be described by their contemporaries
as 'divine' the artist as creator, a
word formerly reserved for God alone. |
Modern
usage and meaning of the word 'ART'
has emerged by the 17nth century, and
refers to painting, drawing, architecture
and sculpture. 'What is Art' a book
by John Canaday is a good example of
keeping up with the tradition by stating
3 definitive categories of art as Painting,
Sculptures and Architecture. |
Progress
and developments in Art is an ongoing
process today based on aesthetic values,
judgments and philosophy involving study
and collaboration within sciences, technology,
innovation and experimentation incorporating
nature, cultures, social reforms, religions,
function, purpose and practical issues
of everyday life. |

Contemporary
art -exactly means 'anything can be art' if
you want it to be. Technology and industry
dominate the world. Computer artists are already
recognised and exhibitions appearing in the
museums world-wide. Artists are encouraged
to use technology as creative media and the
traditional arts man -made slowly despairing. |

The
fast transformations of information, provides
the knowledge and skills necessary to learn,
to balance and understand the complex relationships
among communication and information processes,
technology, art, life but first we need to
understand our selves our traditions and history
to be able to create a 'work of art'. |

so many aspects,, takes
so many directions, serves
so many purposes in such
a variety of ways, that

What is life? |

As
most people, I use the facilities
of electronic libraries as well
as books, journals, and other
resources for research and for
study. When search for art I had
received massive, various outcomes,
which indicate that the word 'art'
its meaning and the way is viewed
depends on various factors as:
cultural, social, national, ethic
or religious background and believes.
This calls for new categories
within art to be established! |
