reflection on growth during 10th grade english class

Last year in English, whenever we wrote paragraphs and essays, it was always written with Jane Schaffer method. The method for a paragraph consists (in order) of a topic sentence, concrete detail, two commentaries, and a concluding sentence. This year, however, we were told to forget about it. Being so used to the method, I wasnt sure exactly of how to make up my paragraphs and how long they should be. Nevertheless, I promptly stopped writing in that format, in fear of getting a worse grade than of what Id get if I hadnt written with the Schaffer method.
Unlike my freshman year where I wasnt used to the level of difficulty that came with Pre-AP English, I quickly grew accustomed to it my sophomore year. Coming back from a month-long summer break, I knew that of course, the work in Pre-AP English 10 was going to be a lot more strenuous than that of English 9. And it was; though there werent as many timed writes as last year, the process papers and research paper made up for it. Long nights of cramming and writing rough or final drafts proved to be uneventful. I found it to be a lot easier to do that last year, but just couldnt do it anymore this year.
Until this year, I hadnt really thought about why they called process papers the way they did; they involved an actual process or steps in order to fulfill that assignment. I used to completely skip the rough drafts and go straight to writing the final draft. This didnt help, because I wasnt able to benefit from the evaluation of my peers, and I also wasnt able to correct any mistakes on the rough draft so that I wouldnt do the same for the final draft.
This year, I learned how to identify different styles of writing such as diction or sentence structure. With this newly acquired knowledge, I was able to analyze various pieces of writing and write essays on them. Though I understood what the prompts for timed writes and essays were about, I had difficulty in figuring out how to put it down on paper. This is one of my weakness, and plan on fixing this in the future.
