| I personally found this year more enjoyable than my freshman year for a number of reasons. For one, me and the rest of the Class of 2007 were no longer at the bottom. Consequently, as a class, we gained more spirit at pep assemblies and other school activities. And of course, everyones self-esteem and ego boosted, including my own. :)
Another reason that I liked 10th grade is because of my dance class. This year, I began Beginning Dance with Ms. Crockett and discovered that I had dancing in me. Prior to this year, I never imagined myself having enough confidence to dance and perform for many people, because I just did not dance. Also, no one in my family was a dancer, so I just followed suit and refused to dance at parties and other functions (where dancing is a primary element). Now, however, I feel a lot more comfortable expressing myself with dancing. I was able to learn the basics of ballet and jazz, with Ms. Crockett teaching my class what different dance positions were (such as jet, en croix, or glissade), and as a result, learned some French. In addition, I learned how to dance to lyrical, hip-hop, and even tap. Despite me always putting myself down when it came to dancing, I managed an A on my first progress report, and I now maintain it at an A+. I love dancing and if I have a chance to perform or further my dancing, Ill take it. I plan on continuing dance by being in Advanced Dance Choreography next year. To get into that class, there are auditions held. Im proud of myself, because unlike others that want to get in, I dont need to audition. I have already proved myself a worthy enough student and dancer to get into Advanced Dance. I dont plan on becoming a professional dancer in the future, but just like having dancing as a hobby.
Last year, I wanted to get into Yearbook, but couldnt because I didnt pay attention to any announcements concerning incoming yearbook staffers. Also, I already had a full schedule ready for this year, filled with classes all required to graduate. I wanted to wait until I had space in my schedule to join the Yearbook Staff; preferably my junior or senior year. It just happened that this year, as I was signing up for next years classes, I figured that for junior year I had space for an elective, preferably Yearbook. As soon as I saw posters go up about meetings, I went there. I applied for a position in the yearbook staff. I had to take pictures and create a sample layout spread, and turned it in with my application. A couple of weeks later, I received notice of my interview. Considering how I havent had many interviews in my life, I was nervous coming into the room with not knowing what to expect. It all turned out for the best. I am now on the Yearbook staff roster for the 2005-2006 school year, and I consider this a big accomplishment for myself. Out of the many applicants who wanted to get into Yearbook, I was one of the (less than fifteen) people that got in.
Also, this year I met more people and made more friendships. As a result, we joined clubs together and went to more school activities (e.g. the Homecoming football game), which got me more involved in school. Although I wasnt able to make the Principals Honor Roll or CSF at the beginning of the semester, I am still striving to get better grades and hopefully, I can get into CSF for next semester.
