Fly Patterns



Here is a sample of the fly-patterns that I have come to rely on most. As I become more proficient using a digital camera, the quality of the photos hopefully will get a little better.
Simple Sowbug

Hook:Scud size 14-16
Weight:#25 lead wire
Rib:Clear Larva-lace
Body:Sowscud Dubbing
(gray,dark-gray, or tan)
Bead-head Sowbug

Same recipe as Simple sowbug
-just add a brass head
BH-Pheasant Tail

Hook:Scud size 14-18
Weight:Brass Bead
Tail:Pheasant-tail fibers
Rib:Brassie-wire(counter wrapped)
Body:Pheasant-tail fibers
Lightning Bug

Hook:Scud size 14-16
Weight:Nickel Bead
Tail:Pheasant-tail Fibers
Rib:Brassie-wire(red or copper)
Body:Silver Tensile
Thorax:Bunny-brite Dubbing, "Rust" Color
Bead-head Larva lace

Hook:scud size 18-20
Weight:Nickel or Brass Bead
Body:Clear Larva Lace
(use tan, gray, or olive thread to create different colors, thread-color will show through the body)
BH-Woolly-bugger

Hook:Streamer 2X long size 8-12
Weight:Gold Bead and #25 lead wire
Tail:Maribou w/flashabou accents
Hackle:Grizzly(palmered over entire body)
Body:Tensile-chenille(med.)
(Black, Olive, Brown or White)
San Juan Worm

Hook:Scud size 12
Body:Ultra Chenille
(red, brown, natural-tan, purple, pink or maroon
Candy's Midge

Hook:Scud size 20
Weight:Brass or Nickel Bead
Rib:Brassie wire
Body:The Tying Thread
Thorax:Build up Tying Thread to a little less than the diameter of the bead
(Gray or Olive)
Red Ass

Hook:Standard Nymph size 14-18
Body:Red Thread

BWO Emerger

Hook:Standard Nymph size 18
Body:Superfine dubbing (olive)
Hackle:Hen neck(dun)
Jennifer's Midge (pupa)

Hook:Standard Dry-fly size 20-24
Body:Thread
Rib:Brassie Wire(optional)
Thorax:Gray Superfine Dubbing or Built-up with thread
(Gray,Olive,Black, or Cream Colors)
Chuck's Emerger

Hook:Standard Dry-fly size 18-20
Tail:Wood-duck Flank Fibers
Rib:Brassie Wire(optional)
Body:Yellow Superfine Dubbing
Hackle:Grizzly or Brown Neck Hackle
(Use Orange or Red Thread to Make the Fly More colorful)
Adams

Hook:Standard Dry-fly size 14-18
Tail:Mix of Grizzly and Brown Hackle Fibers
Body:Superfine Dubbing(adams gray)
Wings:Grizzly Hackle Tips
Hackle:Grizzly
Parachute BWO

Hook:Standard Dry-fly size 18-20
Tail:Dun Hackle Fibers
Body:Superfine Dubbing(Olive)
Wing post:Poly Yarn(Dun)
Hackle:Dun(wrapped horizontally around wing post)
Elk Hair Caddis

Hook:Standard Dry-fly size 18-20
Body:Superfine Dubbing(Olive or tan)
Hackle:Grizzly(palmered over entire body)
Wing:Natural Elk Hair(stacked and clipped short)
