Limestone Caves

We put our boat in storage for the winter in these underground limestone caves. We follow a lead car that sends us in the right direction. I took this picture through the windshield but the spots are from a little spring snowstorm. Follow the leader

The long, dark tunnel
They seem to go on forever and even with lights inside you can only see a short distance. The flash on camera and headlights weren't enough, I had to lighten the pictures I took in the tunnels so you can see the walls.

The walls are covered with a thick dust that seems to glow from the reflection of our lights. I guess it might be the limestone. I've never been in an underground mine or cave, maybe they are all like that. I got a little claustrophobic in the first 10 minutes, kinda felt like I couldn't breathe. The iridescent wall

Our boat under plastic

We didn't think about dust when we parked it, how nice that they covered it with plastic. The boat was in good shape, had a flat tire but we anticipated that and brought air with us.

Lion

Evidently a lot of junk is left in the caves and the guys that work there have a sense of humor. There are stuffed animals, dolls, old Christmas trees, etc. stuck in nooks and crannies all over the tunnels. This lion about to devour an elf was in front of their office. Funny, eh?

Exiting the cave

We had to find our own way out by following some painted arrows,  I was a little worried we might miss one and get lost in there. :) I'm undecided whether I want to go back in the fall. I didn't care for that closed in, no sunlight, no sky above feeling.
