We meet up with the surfer in 'The Return of the Crimson Binome', where Ray has been arrested by the Guardians and sentenced to death. He wakes up to see Matrix freeing the crew of the Saucy Mare, and beseeches the renegade to free him also. Matrix reluctantly agreed, after some persusion from Captain Capcitator. After recommending that the renegade and his friends flee to the Edge of Beyond, and takes off, leaving a grumbling Matrix in his wake. Ray is quickly pursued by the boys in blue, and as he's flying over the system, he spots AndrAIa corned by three cops. Seeing as she's a 'damsel in distress', he swoops down and saves her.

Quick on the draw as always, the Surfer introduces himself and asks AndrAIa if she would like to leave with him, not at all suspecting she's with Matrix. AndrAIa politely refuses, and asks that he take her down to the Captain's ship. "For you - anything." When the crew of the Saucy Mare, along with AndrAIa, Matrix, and Ray, are trapped between systems, Ray suggests that head for the Edge of Beyond. He also mentions he had a 'talent' for creating portals to the Web. The surfer agrees to help them.

After AndrAIa is attacked by Web creature, the sprites venture into the Web. They eventually find Bob, and he heals AndrAIa. They head for Mainframe's web address, but are then caught in Mouse's snare, set to protect Mainframe. In helping get the Saucy Mare through, Ray is left behind in the Web. Unknown to Ray, The Saucy Mare arrives only to find a devestated Mainframe. After fighting Megabyte, Mouse opens a portal to the Web and Matrix tosses the virus through, leaving way for have Ray fly into the system. The surfer helps the Mainframers restart the system, and is 'rewarded' by a kiss from Mouse.

Overall, Ray is pleasant person. He usually has some sort of smile on his face, like he knows something you don't. Ray is always ready with a joke or quip, especially when it comes to Matrix. He may be a overzealous flirt, but that only adds to his character. Besides, Mouse is a huge flirt also, and that in itself simply makes them more suited for eachother.

Ray seems to have some intimate connection to his baud, which he uses for transportation. As Matrix said, "You are the baud!" This coupling of sprite and surf board allows, in a way, Ray's baud can anncipate his movements, catching when he falls and such. In a tight squeeze, he can intergrate himself into his board. There also seems to be some link between Ray, his baud, and his suit. Unconsciousness can only be brought on by attacking the baud; his armor seems resistant to assults, though only he knows how much he can stand. When unconscious, his suit, which normally is shifting from blue to green, blinks out and fades to blue. And when in the Web, Ray can change into his Web suit, allowing the whole of him, including his skin, to be resistant to the deadly atmosphere. These traits may be common only to Ray, or a vast majority of web surfers/search engines.

For now, the Surfer's fate is unknown. He disappeared some time in the war with Daemon. While still under her influence, Turbo claimed Ray was in Daemon's service, but that yet is to be seen. He seemed to have made quite an impression on Mouse in between the time he arrived in Mainframe and his disappearance, for she was willing to go all the way to the Supercomputer - alone, if necessary - to rescue him.

As for Ray his past is a mystery to all, perhaps even himself. We only know he is a loner, a wanderer. Now that he has reappeared in Mainframe, perhaps Ray will make a place for himself beside Mouse.
