Notes for EDWARD VANDIVER:
Edward Vandiver was born about January 1753, first known child of George and
Ann (possibly Harbin) Vandiveer. At that time, the family resided in the portion
of Prince George's County, Maryland which is now the District of Columbia.
The family moved to Cameron Parish, Loudon County, Virginia in 1760, where Edward's
father died in 1764. In 1769 he first appears on the Loudon County Tax Lists
in the household of Sanford (and Ann) Gorham (possibly his step-father). Edward
married Sanford Gorham's daughter, Sarah, by 9 October 1772, when Sanford mentioned
his daughter "Sarah Vandever" in his will. Since their first daughter
was named for her, it is possible that Sarah died in childbirth or shortly thereafter,
in 1774. Edward had remarried to Helena Turley by 1776, per mentioned of her
in a deed that year.
Around 1778, Edward moved his family to Camden District, South Carolina. It
appears that his brother-in-laws Jedediah Frost and Matthew Day moved to
SC at the same time. Here he enlisted and served in the Revolutionary War under
various commands and was at the Battle of Eutaw Springs. In 1783 his younger
brother George, his half-brothers Harvin and William Gorham, and his brother-in-law
Joseph Frost also moved to SC. Edwards second wife died around 1789, possibly
in childbirth or shortly thereafter (son Lumpkin born about that year).
In 1790, Edward married Catherine Poole, daughter of Adam Poole, and younger
sister of his brother Georges wife, Mary Poole. Around 1793-4, Edward
moved his family to Pendleton District, in the portion that was later divided
out to Anderson County. His property was near modern day Townville.
In 1830 he applied for and received a State Pension. When his Federal Pension
Application of 1833 was rejected for failing to prove 6 months service, he applied
to be reinstated on the State rolls, which occurred with back pay. He died in
1837 at the age of 84. Edward is said to have been the father of 21 children,
15 of which reached maturity - 12 sons and 3 daughters. Six of his sons followed
their Uncle Georges lead and became Baptist Ministers.

VANDIVER
Faustine was the 3rd daughter and 4th child born to Arthur Vandiver and
Eunie Craig. It is believed that she was born in Goff's Station. She was short,
about 5' - 2", with auburn hair had small feet. She was often kidded for
shopping for shoes in the children's department. While an infant she became very
ill, wouldn't eat, was very quiet, had difficulty breathing. Her family thought
she was going to die. Her grandmother, Annie McDaniel Craig was credited with
nursing her back to health. It is believed that Faustine had a case of polio.
It was noticed later that she had a limp and an eye muscle problem, "Lazy
Eye".
The family gave her "Possum" as a nickname. Was very good checker
player. People would use her as a standard. She was credited as having beat
a championship checker player. She knew many card games. She didn't care much
for chess. She enjoyed dancing and singing.
When growing up she was assigned taking care of the house and tending to
her younger sisters. Aunt Loretta spoke of her relationship with Faustine as
that of a surrogate mother. She and Loretta developed very close bonds. Loretta
said of Faustine that she had a hard life but made the most of her talents.
She was honest and god-fearing. Attended Radcliff Church of Christ regularily
up to the later days of her life when health and imparements forced her to miss
some services. She was a member of the Eastern Star and served in leadership
stations.
She worked hard and took pride in her work. She had a strong work ethnic
and worked hard and took pride in what she done. She worked in factories and
in retail. She got along well with customers and was recognized for her customer
relations by the Fort Knox Post Exchange. In 1961 she once started up a upholstery
business. Did very good quality work, no customer dissatisfaction, but went
out of business as she under priced her work.
She had only one child, a son. She devoted a lot of her energy to him and
had high expectations of him. She would relate as best she could (having been
a part of the great depression and WWII generation) and would talk and try to
reason. She was thrifty and made sure her debts were paid. As a mother she
was stern at times, but also loving and forgiving. As her son I felt she never
gave up on me even in the times my direction was unsure or taken a downturn.
She taunted me at times by calling me lazy but took great pride in any accomplishments,
although I would sometimes only find out later. She was sometimes slow to praise,
but I felt she was quicker to correct and redirect.
She was outgoing and enjoyed her "Company" or guests. Company
always got the best food and accomodations.
Parents: Arthur McHenry Vandiver and
Eunice Myrtle Craig. She obtained a marriage license on 22 Sep 1945 in
Jefferson Co., Kentucky.(825) She was
separated after Jun 1946. Children were: Larry A. Warren
