Introduction
After Light Years and the return of her career to pure pop genius, Kylie had been down a road which included 5 years at the dance label Deconstruction housed by BMG. If anybody can make sense in what was going on with Kylie Minogue then it is the lady herself and this quote sums it all up succinctly.
"I was being impossible in my belief in possibility" 2002
It is then with that with the few who relished listening to Kylie's emotional and raw lyric that have an album delivered and packaged in a beautiful photo book including image and an artist. Still the chameleon of her stage and screen prescence yet honest with herself, for the very first time, and through her own gamble / choice we can hear a beautiful fragile girl in "Where The Wild Roses Grow" / "If You Don't Love Me", yet also hear the rage and insecurity that is "Tears" to the brooding and dark jazz number that is "Stay This Way". This album is a rare glance into the diversity of soul for one of the 21st centurys pop divas.
Happier Than High
Posing like a 60's seductress on the front cover, BMG's Hits+ is simply oozing with beauty and seduction. The opening strings on the heart wrenching "Confide In Me" reminds you of *that* comeback. I recall hearing the track for the first time on TOTP presented by Malcolm Maclaren with Kylie draped in a flowing dress with big frizzy hair...such beauty and maturity. For the first time Kylie had lost her girlie persona and had grown up.

Kylie's work with deconstruction, fundamentally a dance label that housed M People and Felix, proves to have stood the test of time. These are her most emotive years, her most creative and innovative asa performerand writer. The tracks heavily reflect this. The singles are present here: "Confide In Me, "Put Yourself In My Place", and Where Is The Feeling", lifted from Kylie Minogue 1994. "Some Kind Of Bliss", Did It Again" and "Breathe" along with the beautiful "Where The Wild Roses Grow" with Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. Disappointingly, "Cowboy Style" (the final Australian IP single) and G.B.I. are not included here.
Take Me With You
The album includes many unreleased versions and unheard tracks, most notably the smoky-jazz-club-seductive "Stay This Way", during which you can almost see Kylie in a tiny, dimly lit back street bar, beside the piano singing her heart out. The wonderful "Gotta Move On" cries out for a remix by The Architects but is perfectly Kylie as it is with its vibes and finger clicking. "Difficult By Design" takes a few listens to get into but is clearly one of the tracks left over from the '94 album. "This Girl" written with Uschi Classen is a disarmingly simple number thematic parellels to IP's "Jump" and "Breathe" closes the album of new material with its percussion, country riffs, piano and sad cellos.

You Make Me Feel happy, happy to know you...
Fortunately "Automatic Love"(acoustic version) has been included along with "Take Me With You" (which was last seen on the Intimate and Live tour CD). the former track remains one of the best Kylie tracks released.

Its in these unreleased tracks that you can look through a tiny window into Kylie's own personal feelings and thoughts in what became turbulent times for her, struggling with a troubled record label, artist creativity, emotions and a media that just did not want to credit anything but the delivery of a perfect hit factory pop ditty. BMG like to persuade Kylie fans to buy "rare" and unreleased, of which Kylie has said herself there is plenty of in the Deconstruction back catalogue. If BMG could just release the Hits+ DVD then I would be a happy man.

Kindly written by A. Martin.                                      future music.

"Automatic Love"
Happier than high this is happening, so good to feel the salt water on my skin, it's not a pool of water than I'm harbouring in, these are tears of joy I'm swimming in

There's more than what you see, but not the way you see it, I hope you follow me and you get the meaning
