I Know Your Feeling Me coz' You Like it Like This..sings Kylie on the opening track which gave her a 6th UK No.1 hit  "Spinning Around".  The first album with new record label parlophone, was to be a homecoming of disco fused with the adrenalin of 1990's dance-pop Rhythm Of Love. It was meticulously planned from start to finish as a trip between disco, old and new, fused with hard edged dance floor anthems, and camp inspired tunes such as Your Disco Needs You and Loveboat. The only song breaking the mould was rocked anthem penned and sung by Robbie Williams called Kids and the haunting ballad Bittersweet Goodbye.  Kylie was back towards her high energy routines and had anted to make this album pure fun from start to finish. Miles Leonard and Jamie nelosn of Parlophone both state what a joy it was to work with Kylie, they stated the album was an introduction towards the world stage. The album would take her back into Europe and lead up to a US release.  Spinning Around, had a disco video which produced those hotpants, gold lame hotpants and surely propelled the album in at No.2. Her highest charting effort for 10 years.  First week sales were in excess of 80,000 and the Uk was back dancing and singing to Kylie again.  Kylie states...
"On the second day of filming the  Spinning video..I was like I have no clothes on..I bought the hotpants in Camden market for 50p about 5 years ago, Will digged them out in LA and the rest is history.."

The new album was officially launched at the G.A.Y.  nightclub in London and over 2,500 fans packed the house out to witness the first live performance of new songs.  The picture left is from the night and there was an immediate promise of a tour to accompany this album...Little did anyone know it woul dbecome the highest grossing tour ever by a female artist in Australia and play to over 25 venues around the UK. The album was key to finding Kylie's audience that remained loyal but were somewhat shadowed by a lack of media coverage and a music style in Impossible Princess that left many disillusioned.
Creative Influences
Theres a wondeful ray of confidence around kylie when discussing Light Years.
"I'm very happy and contented at the moment, everything about this CD was fun".
And why not, she has generally been here before, the confidence was placed during her ultra successful S/A/W/ period and all was needed was a fine re-tuning to produce this gem of an album.Kylie was involved in the writing of nine of the albums tracks and it is clear that this vision enabled the album to produce a selection of possible singles and the perfect album to place in your CD player at any occasion. Collaborators included, Guy Chambers, Robbie Williams, Mark Pichiotti, long time friend and writing companion Steve Anderson as well as former Spice Girl writers, Stannard and Gallagher, Johnny Douglas (George Michael, All Saints) and Will Malone (Massive Attack).
Guy Chambers on Kylie.
"She's a really good singer. She's very good in the studio too. She's an icon, I really enjoy working with icons and working with Kylie was amazing."
The most remarable effort was her covering Barry White's classic hit "Under the Influence", and it actually works. Her vocie is now developed to the stage where she can run circles aroun any other pop act and she is a solo artist. The highlights for me are some of the remixes that were released on the Tour CD version of the album, however of the standard album tracks, On A Night Like This is a gem live and Butterfly is a storming dance tune, Light Years includes a segment where we are supposed to come onboard KM-Air and the Donna Summer backing beat from I Feel Love feels perfect as Kylie reaches for those operatic vocals with ease.  The biggest disappoinjtment from the album is the rather misplaced Bittersweet Goodbye, it should have been at the begiing or the end of the album not the middle and the choice of the fourth single with Please Stay..many wanted Your Disco Needs You and many like me wanted Butterfly, still the latter has been limited  release to the club circuit in USA and made the top 15 with ease.  These are small problems when everything about this album screams success, sales have now reached over 4 million and to see the showcase of an award winning tour Kylie put together for this album visit my Tours page.
Q Music Review
Light Years ***

And with Light Years - equal parts strictly ballroom - muriels' wedding - Kylie's gay fans are repaid for their loyalty. So while mentor Madonna has embraced the 21st century nu-disco snappiness, Kylie's disco remains of the old variety, portraying her as nothing less than the new Tina Marie. So Now Goodbye and Disco Down are decidedly hemmed in, but the Guy Chambers/Robbie Williams penned penned Loveboat carries a potent copacobana cocktail punch and the mark Pichiotti Butterfly is a hit in waiting. Light Years ultimately feels like someone hitting you over the head with a stick shouting Disco! Cool! over and over again. th surprise is that this can be a pleasing sensation.
