(Icterus galbula) 5/29/99- This male is bringing caterpillars to a nest full of young.
This nest was near the Dreyfuss Club of White Rock Lake in Dallas. There have
been at least three nesting pairs in this area for the past few years. This species is a rare
breeder in Dallas County. Baltimore Oriole

(Nyctanassa violacea) 5/29/99 - These birds were eating crawfish in the flooded grass. This
photo was taken in the picnic area near the White Rock Lake Dreyfuss Club area. This is actually a composite of three separate
photos, combined with Adobe Photoshop. The brownish bird in the back is a young
night-heron. Harris's Sparrow (Zonotrichia querula) - 2/20/00 Spring Creek Park Preserve, Dallas Co. Texas. Harris's Sparrow is a common winter resident in North Central Texas. Ruddy Duck (Oxyura jamaicensis) - 2/13/00 White Rock Lake, Dallas Co. Texas. Ruddy Duck is a locally common winter resident in North Central Texas. White Rock Lake, just northeast of downtown Dallas, always has large rafts of Ruddies during the winter. Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus) - 2/13/00 White Rock Lake, Dallas Co. Texas. This species is an abundant winter resident at lakes in North Central Texas. Black-bellied Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis) - 7/15/00 Village Creek Drying Beds, Ft.Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. Black-bellies are regular summer residents and breeders in North Central Texas at Village Creek and also at Southside Wastewater Treatment Plant in southeast Dallas County. White Ibis (Eudocimus albus) - 7/15/00 Village Creek Drying Beds, Ft.Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. White Ibis are uncommon late summer visitors to North Central Texas. Most of them are the young brownish birds. |
