Golden-cheeked Warbler photo by Greg Lasley

Grapevine Epimenis (Psychomorpha epimenis)

Photos taken February 24, 2002 at Spring Creek Park Preserve in Garland, Texas, Dallas County.

With warm weather and the first flowers of spring appearing, honey bees, smaller bees, sulfur and dainty sulfur butterflies, bee flies and other fly species, and a beautiful small moth were seen on the earliest flowering shrub on the Preserve, the Elbow Bush (Forestiera pubescens). Elbow Bush is found around the edges of larger copses and along the prairie/forest edge at the Preserve. It has small yellow flowers. The moth was later identified as Psychomorpha epimenis, or Grapevine Epimenis and is in the Noctuidae family.  There were at least 3 individuals, probably more.
