This White-tailed Kite (Elanus leucurus) was photographed in extreme southwest New Mexico on July 30, 2001. It was perched in a yucca along highway 80 on the way down to portal road, just a stone's throw from the Arizona border. Apparently this bird was one of a pair that raised a family in the area.
