Western juncos invaded the area during the winter of '00-'01. Slate-colored is the typical winter subspecies while Oregon and Pink-sided are usually scarce this far east. For example 2 Slate-colored (Junco hyemalis hyemalis), 1 Oregon (J. h. montanus), and 1 Pink-sided (J. h. mearnsi) spent the winter together in my backyard.
