Here you will find games which I find interesting or which have some importance to me. There are not so many yet, but keep checking back as I will be adding more regularly. Soon, I will be adding more historic master games as well. Although my notes and analysis are meant more for less experienced players, if you have any corrections or comments please e-mail me.
| Castro-Golyak, 2001 | This was my first draw against a master. Mr. Golyak is a player whom I respect immensely, and I was very proud of this almost win! |
| Gianniny-Castro, 2001 | I have recently came in 1st on the 4th board of the Rochester Chess Center's Winter League. This is one of my favorite games from that tournament which features a temporary piece sacrifice. This league was important to me because I came in 2nd in the previous league, so I wanted to prove myself. Bruce Gianniny is a tough player and I knew it was an important game. |
| Castro-Crafty 17.13, 2001 | This isn't a full game. Instead, it is an endgame training position. Here I draw the computer engine Crafty where it has rook, pawn, and king while I have only a rook and king. Very instructive (at least it was to me). |
| Castro-licenser, ICC, 2001 | This is an interesting game played against a strong opponent. My opponent plays a sharp variation of the French Defense. |
| Golyak-Castro, Rochester, 2001 | This is my first win against a master. Alright, he was playing against 18 other players at the same time, but I played pretty well. A nice demonstration of how to take advantage of development and initiative. |
| Livithium-Castro, ICC 2003 | This was a game from Round 5 of the Winter 2003 Online Chess League. I consider this to be one of my best games as I did not make any huge inaccuracies against a strong opponent. |
| Morphy-Duke Karl Count Isouard, 1858 | This is Morphy's famous "Night at the Opera." Paul Morphy was a great master from New Orleans. He was a master of attack and one can learn much about the art of attack when studying his games. My notes are not that complicated, so I hope it will be useful to beginners. This is one of my favorite games. |
| Shirov-Short, 2000 | This game from a Super GM event features two of today's top players. I found that the most instructive aspect to this game is the use of positional advantage through the middlegame and endgame. Shirov gives a lesson in how to make use of a better piece in these phases of the game. |
| Gufeld-Tal, 1959 | GM Eduard Gufeld was one of Russia's greatest grandmasters. His love for the art of chess is evident in this game, where he takes on World Champ Mikhail Tal. |
