The first ships where owned by Sally-Line (Mariehamn, Finland). The company name was Sally-Line U.K., with Managing
Director Michael Kingsshott. The company had ferryconnnections between Ramsgate and Dunkirk.
A few years later Sally Lines became a daughtercompany of the Fin 'Siljaline'
In 1993 Sally Ferries started a joint-venture with Oostende Lines (better known as the 'Regie voor Maritiem Transport' or
RMT). Consequently the passengercrossings
shifted from Dover to Ramsgate. The line Ostend-Ramsgate was stopped on march 1st 1997 by the Belgian Government, through which the co-operation between Sally and RMT ended.
However
Sally Line remained in Ostend and co-operated with Holyman from Australia, the new company 'Holyman Sally Ferries' was a fact. The fusioncompany sailed between Ostend-Ramsgate and Dunkirk-Ramsgate. The
passengerconnection between Belgium and England was assured with two fastferries: the 'Holyman Diamant' and the 'Holyman Rapide'. The company stopped the link between Ramsgate and Dunkirk in 1998, and on march 5th the line between Ostend and Ramsgate was also stopped.
Holyman co-operated with Hoverspeed for the further exploit of the passengerline with the two fastferries, now between Ostend and Dover.
On the other hand Sally Ferries had a freightservice
between Ostend and Ramsgate, and on may 20th 1998 she started a passengerservice with conventional ferries. The ferries owned by Sally at that moment were: Eurocruiser,
Eurotraveller, Eurovoyager
and Euroway
.
On november 20th1998 (6 months after starting the passengerservice) Sally Ferries was completely stopped.
The freightservices were taken over by TSL, now TEF. |
