History of Ferryways

The young RoRo-company officialy started on january 5th 2000.
The shareholders are Werfinvest NV, D&W Agencies and Mast (UK).
The main office is in Ipswich, namely Ferryways (UK) Ltd.

The ships leave Ostend from the new Zeewezendok where a complete new terminal has been inaugurated. It consists of two seperate bridges with a piece in between. They form the quays 502 and 503.
The Ipswich terminal has not been in use for three years till now.
The big advantage of the port of Ipswich is that it is situated more inland, namely at the end of the river Orwell.

On weekdays two sailings are sheduled from each port, on week-ends 1 sailing a day.
The first sailing was on february 7th 2000 at 21 hours.
The link Ostend-Ipswich was done by two sisterships, the
'Gabriele Wehr' and the 'Thomas Wehr' who where later renamed as 'Flanders Way' and 'Anglian Way'.

The handling of the goods is assured by the also new company Searoad Stevedores NV.

After a short joint-venture with Sammarina Shipping Lines, Ferryways started a new adventure with Mediterranean Shipping Company.

Ferryways, in which Mediterranean Shipping Company owns a majority stake, has signed a five-year contract with Humber Sea Terminal and joined Stena Line and Simon subsidiary CCTL, the other two lines using the river berths, from January 29th 2002.  The service Ostend-Killingholme was a fact.
