Existing
Situation
The health and
medical needs of the residents of Kalayaan are primarily
served by Rural Health Unit (RHU). The Main Health
Center (MHC) is located in Brgy. San Juan and the five
(5) Barangay Health Stations are located one each in
Longos, San Juan, San Antonio, Magalolon and Sitio
Kalayaan.
The Main
Health Center is manned by a physician, a dentist, a
nurse, a sanitary inspector and a population program
worker. A midwife renders full-time service on each
Barangay Health Station. Manpower complement is shown in
Table 29.
Based on the
standard ratio of one (1) municipal health officer, one
(1) public health nurse, and one (1) rural sanitary
inspector per 20,000 population, the municipality is
presently sufficient with these medical personnel at a
ratio of 1:17, 783.
These medical
and health personnel are assisted by a group of Barangay
Health Workers (BHW) recruited from among the residents
of the municipality. They are trained in health care
activities and assist the barangay midwife in the
delivery of basic health services at the barangay level.

Kalayaan, Rural Health Unit (RHU)
The RHU offers
health services such as material and child care,
immunizations (BCG, DPT 3, OPY 3, Measles, FIC)
treatment of simple illness, nutrition, family planning,
sanitary health care, emergency treatment, health
education, and family life education counseling in
collaboration with the office of the Municipal Social
Welfare and Development.
The Barangay
Health Station offers the same services but not as
extensive as the RHU considering that there is only one
(1) midwife to render such services.
There was no
major epidemic breakout in the municipality for the past
few years but the general public health was commonly
affected by pulmonary disease. |
