EXISTING POPULATION

First Laguna Electric Cooperative, Incorporated (FLECO) through power purchase arrangement with the National Power Corporation (NPC) provides power service to the Municipality of Kalayaan. The primary power source, Kalayaan hydroelectric power plant, has a generating capacity of 300 megawatts and is one of the Luzon Power Grid Projects under the National Power Corporation.

All three barangays of the municipality are already energized although not all households avail of the power service for reason of affordability and feasibility or the part of FLECO.

As of 1995, 1582 or 50% of the total households have power connections. Routes 1 to 3 covering Barangay San Juan have 619 connections, route 4-6 covering Barangay Longos have 502 connections and routed 7-9 covering Barangay San Antonio have 461 connections. Of these, 1507 or 95.26% are residential consumers, 71 or 4.49% are commercial consumers and 4 or 0.25% are utilized for public buildings.

See Table 48 for Number of Households Connections by Barangay and Classification.

Basic power rates are P3.13472/kwh for commercial, P3.07472 for institutional and P2.9236 for street lights.

DEVELOPMENT NEEDS

Although electric supply is provided to all barangays, only 50% of the total number of households are served. The need to improve expand the power facilities and services goes hand-in-hand with the inevitable population growth and economic activities in the area.
