STEERING PARTNERSHIP
WITH THE PRIVATE SECTOR

The province of Nueva Vizcaya has a Comprehensive Physical Framework and Land Use Plan that serves as a guide in the overall development of the province.

Considering its inherent attributes and limitations, the province has adopted a balanced Urban-Rural development strategy to be realized using a three-pronged development approach:

  1. Agri-Industrial Development. Considering its relatively temperate climate, various high value crops, vegetables and cutflowers are being produced in the province. To enhance production of these agri-products which are also inputs to manufacturing industries, the Provincial Government adopted a product zoning scheme where specific areas are designated for mass production thereby increasing productivity and specialization. The province is also now intensifying assistance to the following eight flagships commodities: onion, mango, pineapple, citrus, cutflower, temperate vegetables, livestock and aquaculture.

  2. Eco-Tourism Development. The provinces unique eco-system and mountainous terrain is very suitable for tourism-oriented projects. For instance, there is the thickly forested Consuelo Park in Santa Fe, the cloud covered heights and the rainforest of Mount Pulag, the historic mountain top Dalton Pass Shrine, the caves and virgin forest in Kasibu. They are idal for nature trips, mountaineering, spelunking, river rafting and even seasonal hunting for fun and adventure-loving tourists. Cognizant of the need for more recreational parks and resorts, especially during summertime, the local government is planning to develop the lower Magat forest reserve as part of its eco-tourism development program. The plan envisions the forest reserve as a nature lovers paradise.

  3. Natural resources Management and Development. In order to preserve the environment, regulated utilization of resources is promoted while pursuing massive agro-forestry projects through forestry and upland farming.
