get together for the formal pamanhikan on Jan
5. |
The long vacation of Christmas and
New Year celebration was quite a blast! Come this month
of what we call—our wedding year. As early as
the first week, we were up on our toes working out our
schedule alongside family’s travel plans. On Jan
5, we had our families meet together for the formal
pamamanhikan. John and his family traveled all the way
from Novaliches to Cavite (that took them four hours,
one way by the way). Gee, it’s a north to south
trip all right! Meanwhile my family and I were frantically
preparing the lavish dinner to be served that night.
My sister Kathy and my mom had prepared a sumptuous
Japanese menu while Karla my youngest sister with the
help of her boyfriend was set with their own Korean
dishes. Funny thing was, John and I were clueless as
to what things were supposed to be said and how everything
will roll out. (I guess we were all so full that it
was tempting to call it a day). Oh well, what happened
during the talk, with our parents’ unusual presence
were all by instinct. Yes, we survived it, and it became
a special bonding-time with our loved ones.
On the third week, John unlike most
grooms was notably helpful in the preparations. Well,
of course, I gave him a lil push occasionally, but he’s
most willing to do things for us.
John arranged to see our prospective
videographer/photographer, Emil Buencamino. To be sure
we went to see his work and….Wow! We found ourselves
ogling at his wonderful shots and amazing creativity.
Convinced, we made our reservations. Out went another
item from our checklist. But hey, unlike most couple-to-be,
I think we have done almost half of the preparations
with only 8 months to go.
