Throughout our preparations we have
also done consultation for a pre-marriage counseling.
We realized that it was high time for us to see a pre-marriage
counselor. We knew that this was just as important as
the wedding material things that needed to be prepared.
That our basic emotional and spiritual areas of our
life as a couple were essentially important to be established.
We have asked around from colleagues
and close friends for a marriage counselor. There we
met two counselors and after a round of discussions
we chose Ptr. Clem Guillermo, Director of Back to the
Bible, as advised by my discipleship mentor, Malou Tiu
of Influencer’s International (ministry of Campus
Crusade for Christ). To us, the counseling was a character-building
experience. We fundamentally realized that the more
we get to know our differences, the more we are challenged
to love the unlovable. One of the meaningful quotes
that we would always keep was: “In marriage, we
have a perfect picture in mind. But we end up marrying
the imperfect person. And then you decide, it’s
either you keep the person and tear the picture or keep
the picture and tear the person”. It’s a
choice. Indeed, a crucial choice.
We continued the counseling and every
so often there were dramas along the way but I guess
that’s one of life’s basic component, an
ingredient that seasons a variety-filled flavor menu
called, marriage.
