~ Halie Suzanne Blain Hovenga ~
Halie was a much desired little bundle of joy. She was named after a girlfriend of Becky's who she has known most of her life. We waited every day with much anticipation for the baby's birth. Her older brother, Don, waited each day with us. He helped in all preparations for our new baby's arrival, picking out the clothes she would wear home from the hospital, himself, at the store. Halie was everything a new mother could want. She was a perfect weight (7# 13 1/2 oz) on a perfect new baby and she had a head full of dark ringlets that draped to her shoulders that she never lost. How we could have such a gorgeous creature we didn't know but we were so thrilled and I can't ever remember a time when her care wasn't fun. She was smart and attentive and learned from Don. He potty trained her himself in short order. She wasn't a picky eater and she would sing all day long. I could hear her coming home from school, she would be singing from bus stop to our door. Our first bit of unhappiness came when fixing her for her sojourns to school. When Halie first started school, Becky would fix her hair so cute and then watch as she would start out our door to the bus stop. She would get to the house next door pulling the ribbons and bands out of her hair. Halie has beautiful hair filled with curl and she went to school with kids who had straight hair and that is what she wanted. It became a fight for ever after that day. Our first taste of real outside influence. I know the teachers thought she was one neglected child to come to school with her hair in such disarray.
Halie has grown up into a beautiful and highly intelligent person. Her relationship with Eden is very special with strong, loving bonds. She has spent many hours instructing Eden in Home School classes and has continued to educate herself in order to be the best instructor she could possibly be. Halie is a hard worker and has been credited with being an employee of outstanding quality no matter where she has worked. She is a good cook and a disciple of good healthy foods and exercise. I feel very fortunate to have been her parent. I have learned from her and continue to do so. I hope Mitch realizes exactly what he found when he found our Halie.
