Solomon Blain, b-February 21,
1828; Harlem Township, Delaware County, Ohio; d-March 2, 1913; Paulding
County, buried in Live Oaks Cemetery, Paulding Village, Paulding County,
Ohio.
Solomon is the son of Elam b-May 15, 1807 d-December 26, 1887 and Sarah Cockrell Blain b-December 25, 1807 d-October 7, 1863. He is their eldest son. Solomon received some schooling but chose the life of a farmer. On October 15 1855, he married Susannah Stanley. This union is blessed with six children.
Names: Mary Frances b-1858; Sarah E. b-1861; Joseph b-1862; William b-1865; Lenora b-1873. Solomon's marriage was disturbed when he enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War. He left his wife and four children at home while he served. During the battle of Perryville, 1862, he was injured. That injury may have saved his life. He returned home to his wife and family. Two more children were born to the couple by 1873. *Solomon was a native of Delaware County, Ohio. At about the age of 34, he and his younger brother Elam Jr. enlisted together and fought side by side in the Civil war in company H, 121st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Solomon was wounded in the Battle of Perryville October 7-8, 1862. It was the largest Civil war battle fought in the state of Kentucky. Casualties numbered 7,607.
